I-League: Team Of The Week - Round 13
Goal.com India looks at all those who impressed in Round 13 of the I-League....
By Goal.com India
Formation: 4-4-2
Best XI
Goalkeeper:
Subrata Paul (Pune FC)- India’s number one had a very fine outing in the goalless draw against Mahindra. Paul made a couple of outstanding saves in the first half and looked very confident under the bar in the second period also.
Defenders:
Narugopal Haite (Chirag United)- The right footed fullback played on the left side in the comfortable win over Lajong. He was hardly troubled defensively and setup Chirag’s first goal after brilliantly going past two defenders.
Lamine Tamba (Mahindra United)- Tamba probably put in his best performance of the season against Pune and was deservedly adjudged man of the match. The Senegalese born defender hardly put a foot wrong and led the Mahindra backline very well.
Matthew Gonsalves (Sporting Clube de Goa)- The 31 year old makes into the eleven despite ending on the losing side in the last round. He put in a very strong performance at the heart of the Sporting defence and limited East Bengal to very few clear cut chances.
Ravinder Singh (Air India)- Ravinder got Air India off to a flying start by scoring an impressive goal from a set-piece. The under-23 international kept going forward a number of times and didn’t allow JCT’s right side to put in too many crosses.
Midfielders:
T Karma (Viva Kerala)- The young midfielder had a very lively game on the right flank in Viva’s first ever away win of the campaign against Mumbai FC. Karma created chances for his forwards and worked really hard throughout the game.
Sanju Pradhan (East Bengal)- Sanju’s introduction in the second half gave East Bengal a massive boost as they started creating more chances. The Sikkimese linked up well with the forwards and played some very good through balls from the middle of the park.
Peter Carvalho (Dempo)- The 29 year old midfielder has probably been one of the most consistent performers of the second phase. He was yet again tireless in midfield and also provided an assist in the 3-1 win over Mohun Bagan.
Alvito D’Cunha (East Bengal)- Alvito had a very good game against Sporting as he kept providing some good balls into the box and also got into scoring positions a couple of times. He provided the all important pass to Yakubu which the Ghanaian converted to give the Kolkata side all three points.
Forwards:
Josimar Martins (Chirag United)- The Brazilian rose to the top of the individual scoring chart with a match winning brace against Lajong. Josimar wasn’t rated too highly before the start of the I-League but has gone on to prove his critics wrong by scoring eleven goals in the first half of the season.
Sunil Chhetri (Dempo)- Sunil scored two goals in eight minutes against his former club to seal three points for his team. The Indian international showed great composure to find the back of the net twice and is now the topscorer among Indians with eight goals.
Special Mentions:
Arindam Bhattacharya (Goalkeeper, Churchill Brothers)- The 2009 SAFF Cup final hero looked very assured in goal against Salgaocar and was adjudged man of the match.
Seshuram Chutia(Defender, Salgaocar)- The left back did quite well against a seasoned Churchill side, not showing any signs of rust as he hasn't been a regular this season.
Charan Rai (Midfielder, Churchill Brothers)- Charan was probably the only creative outlet for defending champions Churchill as he created a number of good opportunities.
Beevan D’Mello (Midfielder, Salgaocar)- Beevan was involved in Keita’s goal and had a superb outing overall.
ND Opara (Forward, Air India)- The Nigerian scored Air India’s second just before halftime and caused problems to the JCT defence throughout the match.
Mandjou Keita (Forward, Salgaocar)- Keita gave his side a shock lead to make it four goals in five matches and always looked Salgaocar’s biggest attacking threat.
