I-League: Baljit Sahni To Play Against Sporting - JCT's Parminder Singh
The north Indian club is still reeling...
By Rahul Bali
JCT ‘s fortunes in the I-League have been poor as they continue to lie in the bottom half of the table after eleven rounds of matches. After what was a dream start with two victories in as many games, they were leading the table but since then, three points have been hard to come by as they continue to toil in their effort to get rid of their destituteness.
On Sunday evening, they drew against Chirag United at the Salt Lake Stadium with Penn Orji scoring the equaliser after Josimar had put the Kolkata side ahead.
“We could have won the game. Penn played well and Karanjit was the best player. He even won the Man of the Match award,” said coach Parminder Singh, who replaced Sukhwinder Singh after round six.
JCT have scored 11 goals and have conceded the same number in as many games with as many points. The lack of goals upfront can be attributed to the absence of a foreign striker in their line-up.
“We need one foreign striker and we shall look at some of them when we reach Punjab. Lack of finishing has been our main issue this season.
“But our team is improving gradually and shall slowly climb up,” said Parminder.
The good news for JCT is that Baljit Sahni is expected to make an appearance against Sporting Clube De Goa in their next game, which would be the striker’s first match ever since the unfortunate bike accident in Goa.
“I shall introduce Sahni in the next game. He shall play at least for the last fifteen minutes. Harish Sharma made a second half appearance against Chirag though he has some problem in the forehead. Sunil Kumar shall still take time while Jagpreet is almost out for the whole season,” said the Punjabi coach.
As many as five JCT players are to join the India U-23 camp to be held at Balewadi, Pune on the 5th of next month with Gurwinder Singh being the latest to join the esteemed list.
“Baljit Sahni, Baldeep Singh, Karanjit Singh, Balwant Singh and Gurwinder Singh are the five players from our team in the India U-23 team,” said Parminder.
