I-League: We Committed Too Many Errors - Sporting's Vishwas Gaonkar

The going’s not getting easier...

After ten matches, the only team without a victory in the I-League has been Sporting Clube De Goa. Never before have they had such a woeful record which has done some serious damage to their reputation.

On Sunday, they went down to a Dempo side, which didn’t have the likes of Beto, Ranti Martins and Anwar, which should have made the task for Sporting relatively easier. However, that wasn’t to be as the Flaming Oranje continues to be in flames as they failed to come out of the game without anything tangible.

“We were very disappointing for the first 30 minutes. We allowed them to play or rather, we didn’t play at all. The next 15 minutes of the first half, we played well.

“In the second half, we tried but Dempo controlled the game for large parts. On the whole, we committed a lot of errors. We started with a 3-5-2 formation and Joaquim (Abranches) and Chhetri (Sunil) created too much trouble or forced us to make mistakes,” said coach Vishwas Gaonkar.

The Goan side have two tough games before the I-League enters its second break as they face JCT (away) and East Bengal (home). The bad news is that they will be without their Japanese defender Kenji Arai, who has done well for them ever since his arrival, due to suspension.

“We have to work on the striking abilities. The midfield needs to be more creative while defensively, we ought to be strong. Every match is tough in the I-League. Something’s not working with us. We hope to find a solution as soon as possible,” he added.
