I-League: Stop Hooligan Acts - Churchill Brothers' Kalu Nnanna
It’s a shameful act...
Kalu Nnanna’s horrific week continued as he was struck by a
stone at the end of the 2-2 draw against Mohun Bagan by the latter’s fans after
being frustrated of not seeing their side seal three points.
The Nigerian playmaker was obviously miffed at the behaviour of the fans in the City of Joy and mentioned that it isn’t the best advertisement for the sport.
“Playing 90 minutes in the football pitch is not easy. We leave our home as we have a job. We have to go to the field, play to win and achieve things. Incidents such as these are very bad for the sport in the country,” said Kalu.
The midfielder, who idolizes Zinedine Zidane, stated that being a fan doesn’t give one a right to hurt others when their team gets a negative result. He also added that the security officials didn’t do much.
“You get angry when your team loses or draws but now I’m in pain. There is a big scratch, wound and who is responsible?
“The security, the police, didn’t do their normal job. A big stone hit my back and I fell down. Odafa had to pick me up and take to the dressing room as I couldn’t walk.
“You have to protect the players and not just those who come from other cities, but those in Kolkata as well. We need to stop such incidences,” said the 23 year old.
The best midfielder award winner shall have a check-up done once the team returns to Goa.
Rahul Bali.
