I-League: Only Two Clubs Remain Unbeaten; Pune Are The Draw Specialists

As the I-League takes a break after eight rounds due to the two national camps, Goal.com's Amoy Ghoshal brings to your notice a few facts and figures.

Churchill’s 2-0 win over Chirag United was their third consecutive win; only Mohun Bagan and East Bengal have managed to do the same this season. Mahindra United became the first team to score four goals in two separate matches this season after thumping Air India 4-0 in the last round.

                                               The Two Remaining Unbeaten Teams

Mahindra United and Churchill Brothers are the only two remaining unbeaten teams after eight rounds. While Pune FC and Sporting Clube de Goa are the only two clubs without a win, but Sporting have played one game less.

Defence Is A Worry For Bimal Ghosh

Mohun Bagan and Dempo are the leading scorers with 18 goals each. Seventh placed JCT are the best team defensively having conceded just seven goals in eight matches. Viva Kerala and Salgaocar have scored the least number (6) of goals while Air India have let in the most (16).

Churchill Brothers and Mohun Bagan are the only two teams who have scored in each of their matches. Viva Kerala have managed to score in only three of their matches with four out of their six coming in one game.

                                             Kalu Celebrating Goal No.150

155 goals have been scored so far in 54 matches with round four yielding the most number (25) of goals in one round. Churchill’s Ogba Kalu Nnanna scored the 150th goal. Baljit Singh Saini remains the highest Indian scorer with six goals despite not scoring since round five and is the joint fourth highest scorer overall along with Churchill skipper Odafa Okolie.

                                                            Joint Top Scorer

The Nigerian duo of Mahindra’s Muritala Ali and Mohun Bagan’s Edeh Chidi are the current joint top scorers with 8 goals each. Both of them have only scored in three matches and bagged two hattricks. Individually they have scored more goals than three clubs (Viva Kerala, Pune FC and Salgaocar).

One Of The Two Best Partnerships

Chirag’s Brazilian duo of Josimar Da Silva and Edmilson Marques and Mahindra’s front two of Muritala Ali and Mohammed Rafi are the two joint best strike partnerships. Both duos have 12 goals between them. (Josimar -7 & Edmilson- 5, Muritala-8 & Rafi-4).

Sunil Chhetri remains the second highest Indian scorer with five goals but Mohammed Rafi is now the third highest with four. Reisangmi Vashum and Abhishek Yadav are jointly fourth with three goals each.

                                                           Draw Specialists

Newly promoted Pune FC are the undisputed draw specialists having drawn six out of their eight matches while Churchill Brothers have had the most number of sending offs, with four players being shown red cards so far this season.

All four promoted clubs are in the lower half of the table while Chirag United is the only non former champion which is in the top seven. Salgaocar is the only former champion which is not in the top half. The top two teams are from Goa while all three Kolkata teams are in the top six.
