I-League: For My Son Adam - Mohun Bagan's Karim Bencherifa On The Victory Over Pune FC
The Moroccan coach celebrates his son’s second birthday in a special way...
Adam Bencherifa turned a year older on Saturday and his dad
presented him with a 3-1 victory over Pune FC in their final I-League game
before the break.
“It was an important game for us given that we hadn’t won our last two matches. I am happy we won and I would dedicate it to my beloved son, Adam,” said Bencherifa senior.
To get the gift for his son, Bencherifa and his boys had to sweat it out at the Balewadi Stadium especially due to poor ground conditions.
“It was tough for us primarily because of the ground conditions. Pune FC had played many times there and knew all about it. We hadn’t trained on that ground and so for the first 15-20 minutes, we had to spend time trying to adapt to the conditions,” said the former Churchill Brothers coach.
Chidi Edeh is now the joint topscorer with Muritala Ali with eight goals at the end of the first phase of the I-League and was the object of Bencherifa’s praise along with Tomba Singh.
“I am pleased with Chidi’s performance as he scored his second hat-trick. Tomba Singh started his first game in the top division after a long time and I’m sure he will get better with every match,” said Bencherifa.
For now, the Mohun Bagan coach wants to end the day by speaking to his son, who is in Singapore presently.
