The Interviews For I-League's CEO To Be Conducted Today But...
Finally, the interviews are happening...
The much awaited interviews for the post of I-League’s CEO
is to finally see the light of the day this afternoon when Indian FA president,
Praful Patel, the vice-presidents, A.R.Khaleel and Subrata Dutta and the
current general secretary, Alberto Colaco conduct the same.
While four candidates were shortlisted for the face-to-face question and answer session, one of the favourites for the job, Ian Stillie shall not make it to the Indian capital on Thursday.
“Due to personal problems, he won’t be present and he has informed the AIFF about it,” said Stillie’s agent to Goal.com.
With the financial remuneration being fixed of around two lakh rupees, one wonders how would a foreign name be willing to come so cheap. Whether Stillie is still interested in the top job or would the AIFF conduct his interviews later, still remains unanswered as Colaco chose to remain mum.
In case, the AIFF decides to have the interview for Stillie at a later date, it would belittle the post and increase the importance of the individual, which isn’t fair to the other candidates.
The Indian candidates – Anil Kamat, Sunando Dhar and Harish Rao, are expected to have their interviews. With certain sections of the Indian football fraternity and the AIFF wanting a non-Indian for the CEO’s post, it remains to be seen whether the authorities do take the Indians seriously.
Also with the financial complications faced by the Indian FA, there remain doubts over the appointment of the CEO in the first place. ONGC hasn’t yet signed a contract with the AIFF to sponsor the I-League though a verbal assurance had been given to Praful Patel.
Add to that the misery of having to wait for the money to come from the official broadcasters of Indian football, Zee Sports.
The only silver lining for the AIFF has been the money sent in by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which was apparently for the development of the game in the country.
After having taken months before the interviews are at last taking place, one hopes that the decisions shall be promptly taken.
