I-League: Team Of The Week - Round 7

Goal.com India looks at all those who impressed in Round 7 of the I-League....

I- League India 2009,Chirag United SC v/s Salgoacar Sports Club (Mango Peel)
Formation: 3-4-3

Best XI

Goalkeeper:

Tyson Caiado (Dempo)- Tyson had an excellent game against Churchill even though he conceded three goals. He made some outstanding saves and was unfortunate to end up on the losing side.

Defenders:

Samananda Singh (Sporting Clube de Goa)-
Samananda looked solid at the back for Sporting as he coped well with the pace of Snehashish and distributed the ball well from defence.

Uga Okpara (East Bengal)- The Nigerian’s presence in defence has been instrumental in East Bengal’s two consecutive wins. He dominated all aerial duels against Air India which helped his team keep a clean sheet.

Gouramangi Singh (Churchill Brothers)- The Indian international couldn’t have done much to stop any of Dempo’s two high quality goals but his composure and experienced prevented Armando Colaco’s team from scoring in the second period.

Midfielders:

MP Sakeer (Viva Kerala)- The midfielder has easily looked Viva’s best player this season. His freekick setup Bunpeng’s goal against Mahindra and he looked in fine touch for the rest of the game also.

Shanmugham Venkatesh (Pune FC)- Venkatesh yet again gave Pune the lead and bossed the midfield against Lajong but it wasn’t enough as his team couldn’t hold on to their one goal lead.

Daniel Bedemi (Shillong Lajong)- The Nigerian had to work hard against Pune but he still looked Lajong’s most likely player to create a goal. He converted the all important penalty which earned his team one point.

Joseph Pereira (Sporting Clube de Goa)-
The diminutive midfielder is slowly getting back to his best and his performance in the game against Mohun Bagan was another proof of that. He scored a fine goal and looked dangerous throughout.

Forwards:

Ranti Martins (Dempo)- For much of the big Goan derby, Ranti overshadowed Odafa as he scored two wonderful goals including the spectacular second with a bicycle kick.

Odafa Okolie (Churchill)- The Churchill captain once showed his match winning capabilities as he bagged a brace and played a big role in the other goal which helped his team edge arch rivals Dempo in a fascinating Goan derby.

Josimar Da Silva (Chirag United)- Josimar’s brace against Salgaocar makes him the current topscorer with 7 goals. His finishing didn’t look upto the mark earlier in the season but he has made a big improvement on that aspect and now is one of the most in form strikers in the league.

Special Mentions:

Shilton Paul (Goalkeeper, Mohun Bagan)- The young custodian hasn’t had a good season so far but made some important saves in the 2-2 draw against Sporting.

N.Mohanraj (Defender, Mohun Bagan)- The young fullback setup Bagan’s equalizer with an accurate cross and had a good game overall.

Eduardo Coelho (Defender, Chirag United)- Du marked Salgaocar’s danger man – Eneke Ikenwa, pretty well throughout the match which helped his team to keep a clean sheet.

Jayanta Sen (Midfielder, Chriag United)-  Jayanta had another fine outing from the middle of the park and was adjudged man of the match.

Sergey Tokov (Midfielder, Pune FC)- Tokov came off the bench to setup Pune’s goal and looked lively whenever he got the ball.

Nathaniel Amos (Forward, Sporting Clube de Goa)- Amos scored a fine goal and caused problems for the Mohun Bagan defence throughout the match.

Abhishek Yadav (Forward, Mumbai FC)- The Indian international once again got on the scoresheet and also assisted in another goal.
