I-League: Stalemate Between Shillong Lajong And Salgaocar SC
In a match between the two promoted sides, neither could break the deadlock...
Shillong Lajong and Salgaocar SC played out a goalless draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong in a sixth round I-League encounter this evening.
The match started with both sides showing good enthusiasm going forward. The Goan side enjoyed better possession with Ekene Ikenwa had two guilt edged chances. Ikenwa’s shot also came off the post but Avneet Shergill sent it over. Rocus Lamare found Michael Tayo whose final shot missed the target by not much.
Anil Gurung, playing his first game in India, laid it up for Niwan-o-Gatpoh but the midfielder couldn’t convert his chance. Salgaocar were the better side and didn’t give many chances to Stanley Rosario’s side.
Kalyan Chaubey, the Salgaocar goalkeeper, cooled his heels as he hardly was called to make any save during the match. Both teams shuffled their resources in a bid to seize the full points and it was Salgaocar who would be disappointed after putting on a commanding performance.
Surprisingly, Salgaocar's Luciano Sobrosa was named the Man of the Match in a game where the opposition didn’t create much.
Shillong Lajong occupies the seventh spot with as many points while Salgaocar have six in their bag. The north east side will travel to Pune next with the Goan club having to face Chirag United in Kolkata.
