I-League: Something Is Working Against Our Team - Sporting's Peter Vaz
The Sporting chief doesn’t believe but does state the false notion...

The Flaming Oranje are in tatters for now having sunk to the
bottom of the I-League table. With a single point from their four outings,
Sporting have failed to live up to the billing.
The Goan club have conceded 10 goals so far, which is
exactly half the number of what they had given away in 22 matches of the
I-League last season.
“We have been giving away goals. Our goalkeepers and defence have been poor. In the last game against Viva, we could have killed the game in the opening ten minutes. We have scored goals as we lead 2-1 against Pune, and scored first with Salgaocar as well. But the defence has been a little shaky,” said club owner, Peter Vaz.
Sporting Clube De Goa has seen many changes at the top as many coaches have been shuffled in the past. The selection of Roy Barreto to fill in the boots of Clifford Chukuwama has been disappointing to say the least.
“The thing is that we have had too many coaches. Clifford was there, then Vishwas came in, thereafter, Clifford again and then Barreto is here. Each coach has a different philosophy. This coach (Barreto) believes in short passing but we have to realise that we can’t force things on players as well. We have to let them be expressive.”
According to some tabloid reports in Spain, Pepe, the witch, was paid by a “jilted lover” whom claim to be as Paris Hilton, to cast a hex upon Cristiano Ronaldo’s head. Vaz doesn’t believe in necromancy but doesn’t rule out the possibility of the same.
“Something is going wrong somewhere. I don’t believe in black magic but something is working against our team. There are some external forces working on this,” said a cautious Vaz.
Things don’t look pretty for Vaz’s club as they have striker Junior Elijah sidelined for at least two weeks due to a hairline fracture. The fixture list too doesn’t favour his side, according to the Sporting chief.
“We aren’t facing the bigger teams and are playing mostly in Goa. The draw has been a bit unfair. Last year too, we were made to travel a lot in the second phase as opposed to the first.”
Bob Houghton has been vocal of not having five foreign players per team in the I-League. Sadly, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) never considered or even asked for Houghton’s advice and decided to allow five foreign players and that has hampered the chances of the local players tremendously.
“I have always been against this five foreigner rule. We must have one or two, not more than that. Some of these players, they play with their arms by elbowing. Some even poke fingers in the eye. We must do away with the present rule.”
Sporting next face Chirag United at home on Monday and another negative result could spell doom for the Portuguese coach.
