I-League: Team Of The Week - Round 5

Goal.com India looks at all those who impressed in Round 5 of the I-League....

I- League,Viva Kerala Vs SC Goa (Mango Peel)
Best XI

Formation: 3-4-3

Goalkeeper

Abhijit Mondal (Dempo)-GK-
The goalkeeping department has been bit of a concern for Dempo so far this season but Mondal has solved it somewhat after an inspiring display against JCT. He came up with a number of important saves in the 2-1 win.

Defenders

Wali Chika (Pune)-RB- The Nigerian defender produced a man of the match performance against Churchill as he did well to prevent Odafa and company from scoring in the second half. In fact the champions were unable to score from open play and Chika played a big part in it.

Anwar Ali (Dempo)-CB- Anwar was back to his best against his former club as he produced a vintage display at the heart of the Dempo defence which helped them pick up an important away win.

Marlangki Suting (Shillong Lajong)-LB- Suting was a livewire for Shillong at left back against Mohun Bagan as he caused a lot of problems with his overlapping runs. He was equally good defensively which made Bagan’s right side largely ineffective.

Midfielders

Seikhohao Tuboi  (Shillong Lajong)-RM- Tuboi played upfront for Lajong but we have him in the team at midfield because of the presence of three other strikers. His pace and incisive runs caused problems for the Bagan defence all match as he won the penalty from which Aibor Khongjee scored and was unfortunate not to have another in the early stages of the game.

Beto (Dempo)-CM- The Brazilian didn’t get on the scoresheet against JCT but was influential throughout the game. Dempo lead the table after five games and Beto’s consistency has played a key role in it.

Marcos Pereira (Mohun Bagan)-CM- Marcos wasn’t at his best in the first three games but after a solid performance against East Bengal, he produced another match winning display versus Lajong. He scored the winner with a fine freekick which helped his team enter the top four.

Snehashish Chakraborty (Mohun Bagan)-LM- Mohun Bagan have won all the games in which Snehashish has started that clearly shows the former Chirag and East Bengal player’s influence on the Mariners. His brilliant cross setup Chidi’s goal which leveled the scores against Lajong.

Forwards

Mohammed Rafi (Mahindra United)-RF- Rafi bagged a brace in a fine display against Chirag. The first one was an unstoppable header from a Paresh Shivalkar cross and the second was an acrobatic volley from a Steven Dias center.

Reuben Senyo (Viva Kerala)-CF- The man from Ghana turned out to be Viva’s hero as his two goals helped the Kerala side to register their first points of the season. He played a part in another goal as well and looked dangerous throughout the game.

Josimar Da Silva (Chirag United)-LF- The Brazilian scored two goals which helped his side earn a crucial point away from home. Josimar has been often criticized for his poor finishing but the brace against Mahindra has taken his tally to five for the season.

Special Mentions:

Mehrajuddin Wadoo(CM, East Bengal)- After a poor display in the derby, Mehraj looked much more comfortable in a midfield role against Salgaocar and had a good game.

Dane Pereira (CM, Mumbai FC)- The medio came off the bench to score the first equalizer for Mumbai FC and impressed for the rest of the game also.

Henry Gangte (CM, Air india)- The former Mohun Bagan player had a superb game from the middle of the park as he initiated almost every attack of his team.

Abel Hammond (RM, East Bengal)- Hammond started on the right and scored a spectacular goal to give his side the lead and created many other chances.

Steven Dias (RM, Mahindra United)- The Indian international was in fine touch yet again as he setup one goal and looked lively throughout.

Joaquim Abranches (FW. Dempo)- In the absence of Ranti Martins, the young attacker did a good job along side Sunil Chhetri and also scored a goal.

ND Opara (FW, Air india)- Opara isn’t the most gifted player technically but has scored some important goals for his team and that was the case in round five also as he bagged a brace.

Baljit Sahni (FW, JCT)- Sahni’s brilliant long range strike against Dempo retained his status as the league’s topscorer.
