I-League: Lajong General Secretary All Praise For New Nepali Recruit Anil Gurung
The dynamic official had a brief chat with Goal.com post the signing of Nepal's star striker...
Nepal star striker Anil Gurung signed for Shillong Lajong earlier today, in a show of clear intent from the northeast team that they're here to stay in the I-League.
In a short conversation with Goal.com, Lajong General Secretary Larsing Ming Sawyan was full of praise for the 21-year old Nepali striker.
"Anil is a very impressive young striker, who has been playing in the Nepal national team for the last one or two years now, and we're happy to have him", said Sawyan.
The lad has just returned from a trial in England, which was confirmed by Sawyan. He said, "Yes he was in England for a trial. He tried out with the Chelsea reserves, and then with Woking FC, but work permit issues denied him any chance in the UK."
Sawyan was all praise for the striker's skills, who is a star in his homeland, and also the highest paid player in Everest country.
"Anil's got a good football sense, a very good first touch, and wonderful technique. I'm sure he'll add a lot of value to our squad, and will fit in well", he concluded.
Lajong gave a good account of themselves against Mohun Bagan on Thursday, and dominated most of the game. However, a lack of cutting edge in the final third meant that they could only score once, via a spot kick. Is Gurung the answer to those problems? We'll have to wait and see, but all signs in and around the club suggest that they've got the man they wanted.
