I-League: Four Clubs Still Without A Win

After the conclusion of five rounds, Goal.com's Amoy Ghoshal brings to your notice a few facts and figures from this season's I-League.

Three teams are the joint leading scorers in the league. Dempo, Mahindra United and Mohun Bagan have all scored 12 goals each. Defending champions Churchill Brothers have already dropped eight points this season but they have conceded the least number of goals- only four in five matches.

Champions Have Let In The Least Goals

Viva Kerala’ s four goals against Sporting in round five were their first goals of the campaign, which makes them the lowest scorers along with fellow newly promoted side, Pune FC who have also managed four goals. Shillong Lajong have the most number of wins among promoted teams with two victories but they have conceded eleven goals which is the most by any team.

Four teams are yet to register a win this season and interestingly all of them are from different cities. They are Pune FC, East Bengal, Mumbai FC and Sporting Clube de Goa. While Dempo, Chirag United, Mahindra United and Churchill Brothers are still unbeaten this season.

                            No Wins For East Bengal

Mohun Bagan, Shillong Lajong and Viva Kerala are the only three teams who haven’t drawn a single game this season. Unbeaten Churchill and newly promoted Pune FC are the draw specialists so far with four stalemates each.

1-1 has been the most frequent scoreline with seven out of 33 matches ending that way. Churchill Brothers has been part of four such matches and Salgaocar twice. Only two matches have ended as 0-0 and East Bengal has been involved in both of them.

107 goals have been scored in the 33 matches. Svetozar Mijin of Mahindra United scored the first and Abel Hammond of East Bengal scored the 100th.

Mijin Scored The First Goal

Mohun Bagan and JCT are the only two teams who have scored five in one game. Dempo, Mahindra and Viva Kerala are the three teams who have managed to score four in a match. Shillong Lajong have conceded four and five goals in two separate games.

JCT’s Baljit Sahni, Muritala Ali of Mahindra United and Edeh Chidi of Mohun Bagan are the three players who have bagged hat-tricks this season. Chidi of course scored four in one game against East Bengal. ND Opara of Air India and Chirag’s Josimar Da Silva are the two players who have scored a brace on two separate matches.

                                     Two Braces For Opara

Baljit Sahni is the league’s topscorer with six goals in five matches and is the only player who has scored in four separate rounds. Only the top four clubs and newly promoted Shillong Lajong have scored more goals than him.

                                          Baljit The Topscorer

Three foreigners are the joint second highest scorers with five each goals each. They are Josimar, Muritala and Chidi. Sunil Chhetri is the second highest Indian scorer with four while Churchill’s Vashum is third with three goals. Vashum along with Dempo’s Beto is also the joint highest scoring midfielder.
