Viva Kerala 4-2 Sporting Clube de Goa

Viva Kerala registered their first win of the season by beating Sporting Clube de Goa 4-2 at Kozhikode Municipal Stadium on Thursday evening.

Reuben Senyo scored a brace while C.Sirajudeen and KP Anish bagged the other goals for Viva. Bibiano Fernades and Michael Tayo were the Sporting scorers.

Sporting took the lead as early as the fourth minute when a cross from Bibiano Fernandes found it’s way to the back of the net as Viva keeper Shaninlal was caught off guard.

The home side were not disheartened by the goal as they kept looking for the equalizer and were finally rewarded in the 17th minute when striker Reuben Senyo slotted his shot past Sporting keeper Felix D’Souza.

That goal gave Viva even more confidence as they started dominating the game. They took the lead through midfielder Sirajudden who had an easy finish after being left free in the box.

Sporting though were never out of the contest as they had their chances to score but Viva held on to go into the halftime break with the lead.

The two goals in the first half were Viva’s first two goals of the season so they were full of ambition in the second period also with Reuben Senyo in hot form.

Viva looked the most likely team to get the next goal and they did that through KP Anish who pounced on a rebound after Felix had initially saved Senyo’s powerful effort.

Down by two goals Sporting threw everything at Viva in the final twenty minutes and did pull one back through Michael Tayo in the 86th minute.

That nearly setup a nervous finish for Viva but Reuben Senyo killed the game off two minutes later. The man from Ghana got on the end of a miss clearance from Sporting keeper Felix and found the back of the net with a neat finish.

Viva’s first win of the season still keeps them in the relegation zone but they are level on points with two teams above them while Sporting are now placed rock bottom.
