Kolkata giants East Bengal announced on Wednesday that Belgian Philip De Ridder will be the new coach.

The hunt for a new coach was on after Subhash Bhowmick stepped down on Monday following the 3-5 defeat at the hands of Mohun Bagan.

Former Churchill coach Zoran Djordjevic was also considered but in the end De Ridder was selected.

East Bengal football secretary Santosh Bhattacharya was quoted saying, “Philip De Ridder is the new coach of the club.

“De Ridder was our coach four years back so the club members were keen to have him back.

“He is a very talented coach and we are confident that he will make the club successful again.”

The Belgian was in charge of the Kolkata club in the 05-06 season when he helped them finish runner up in the National League.
