I-League: Let's Not Lose Our Mental Balance - Sporting President Peter Vaz
When the going gets tough, the tough get going seems to be the mantra Sporting are chanting...

Lying second from bottom of the
I-League table, Sporting Clube De Goa have Viva Kerala for company whom they face
on Thursday away from home in their bid to end their miserable run of results.
A point from three games isn’t
what you expect from a side who were the league leaders for most of the last
season.
“We lost our first and the third games due to substitutions and the draw in the second game was because of goalkeeping errors. Now, it’ time to revise our strategy,” said club owner Peter Vaz.
Sporting have saw seen a lot of the ball but haven’t been able to convert their chances as they haven’t been incisive enough.
“We had more of the possession in the three matches but our goalkeepers made mistakes. In the 270 minutes, we have only one yellow card which means something is wrong as generally, you do get more cards in that much time,” pointed Vaz.
Roy Barreto’s tenure hasn’t started well and Vaz has faith in his Portuguese leader but explained the flaws as well.
“In European football, one who does well in the practice is being selected. Indian football is different. Youngsters do more hard work in the game and are selected but what they lack is a proper match temperament.
“Add to that, we are missing Wilton and Chinta from the starting XI who are key players of our squad.”
Despite the problems at Sporting, Vaz opines that it’s essential for the team not to lose their mental balance.
“Anything you do, you have to first do it in the mind first. Mentally, they have to be strong. When we lost Dudu Omagbemi, we didn’t do that well. We are playing Mahindra United and I told the players that now you have to play for your names and they responded.
“You always have to think of the forward pass and every step has to be forward,” said Vaz.
