I-League: AIFF Show Promptness After Bob's Blast
Houghton’s message hasn’t gone with the wind after all...
As earlier reported by Goal.com, at the All India Football
Federation’s (AIFF) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, India national
coach Bob Houghton had voiced his concern over the green signal given to allow
five foreign players per club.
While Bob was presenting his plan for the 2011 Asian Cup, a senior Executive Committee member put forth a few questions concerning the national team and even asked as to why the five foreigner rule was introduced.
This infuriated the Englishman who blasted the Executive Committee for coming with nonsensical rules which doesn’t help the country in anyways.
The AIFF have written to all state associations asking their opinion on the matter and send their replies by the end of the next month so that everyone concerned could mull over.
Goa Football Association (GFA) secretary, Savio Messias confirmed having received a letter and stated that he, in turn, has written to all the I-League clubs from his state for their opinion.
“Since the rule concerns them, I have written to the I-League clubs for their opinion on the matter,” said Messias.
A few state associations hadn’t received the letter as yet as Western India Football Association’s (WIFA) assistant secretary, Wali Mohammed was in the dark.
“I am yet to receive any such letter from the AIFF,” said Wali.
One wonders whether a similar discussion could have been initiated in the first place before coming out with such rules, which doesn’t help the cause of Indian football, as Bob Houghton believes.
