The AIFF planned to keep the national team players for two seasons in their bid to prepare for the 2011 Asian Cup. The costing of the total project ran into millions and thus raised eyebrows from every section of Indian football. The project was only shelved officially on Thursday in favour of the Plan B which is to have the national players for eight months next year.

Speaking to Goal.com, Peter Vaz said, “Goal 2011 is a pension plan for the players and a fund raising one for the officials. All these ideas can only come from empty barrels.

“In India, once you don’t kick the ball you become an administrator of football. That’s the saddest part.”

Instead of spending the money on keeping the national team players for a certain amount of time, Vaz states that maybe the Indian FA could spend some money for artificial turfs.

“They need to spend on the infrastructure. In the coastal states, you need artificial turfs,” opined Vaz.
