I-League: Referees Are Always Criticized - AIFF
While almost every coach and official in the country is being vocal about the poor standard of refereeing in India, All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary Alberto Colaco has spoken in defence of the ‘Men in Black’.
Almost every post match conference, there is a standard dialogue which comes out. It is a regular feature so much so; that the scribes can predict what’s coming. But if the clubs would be asked to complain about the same, they point that it leads to nowhere and a futile exercise.
Of the few clubs who have written letters, nothing has come off it and neither have the clubs bothered to follow it up. Alberto Colaco feels that pointing fingers at the referees is a trend all over the world and India is no different.
“Referees are always criticised by the clubs. Like players, coaches and referees whether in the FIFA World Cup or the EPL make mistakes. But I do not agree that the referees are not up to the mark,” said Colaco.
It’s the match commissioner’s job to take a note of the proceedings of the game and even comment on the referee. According to the clubs, the match commissioners haven’t been doing their job and are one of the blocks of the system.
“Referees performances are monitored closely by Col. Kar and Mr. Ravishankar. The video footage and match reports are reviewed. Any mistake is brought to the notice of the concerned referee/asst. referee. The appointment committee is also kept in the loop,” added Colaco.
Whether the clubs would take their riles to the system or keep it confined to the post-match conferences remains to be seen.
