I-League: Mehraj Hails Churchill's Kalu
East Bengal’s Mehrajuddin Wadoo spoke to Goal.com on his team’s poor showing in their two games in Goa and looked ahead to their next game.
East Bengal only picked up one point
from their two games in Goa in the last two rounds and
the Kashmiri believes a combination of poor refereeing and bad performance was
responsible for those results.
“Well we cant complain much about refereeing. It has been a problem in almost every game.
“But we actually didn’t play that well. Against Sporting we came up with a good performance and then against Churchill we missed (Ishmael) Addo and Sunil (Chhetri).
“Their first goal was offside but we could have defended better for the other two.”
The Indian international also said that Ogba Kalu Nnnana was their main tormentor instead of Odafa.
“Odafa grabbed all the headlines because of his two goals but for me Ogba Kalu (Nnnana) was their best player.
“He broke up our attacks and created chances for his team”
Since their memorable 3-0 win over arch rivals Mohun Bagan last month, the red and gold brigade have only picked two points from four games and according to Mehraj, the frequent injuries has been one of the main reasons for that.
He said, “We won three games in a row after beating Mohun Bagan but like the rest of the season we have been rocked by injuries here and there.
“Now defensively that’s a big problem because we don’t get a fixed back four for consecutive games.
“And this way our rhythm is affected and we are not being able to be consistent.”
Mehraj looked ahead to their next game against JCT saying that they badly need to win that game.
“We need to win against JCT. If we fail to do so then we will be under pressure from the teams that are below us now."
That game against JCT will take place at Barasat on Friday, 3rd April.
