I-League Team Of The Week: Round 15

Goal.com looks at all those who made it under the sun in the Team of the I-League’s Round 15.

Sporting Clube de Goa celebrate Chinta Chandrashekhar's goal vs Churchill (Mango Peel)
Arindam Bhattacharya (Churchill Brothers)-GK- Churchill might have lost the Goan derby against Sporting Clube de Goa but Arindam was certainly in fine form, producing quite a few important saves in the match.

Samananda Singh (Sporting Clube de Goa)-RB- Sporting’s success this season has been mainly due to their well organized defence. Samananda has been one of their most consistent performers. He was solid as usual at right back against Churchill.

Matthew Gonsalves (Sporting Clube de Goa)-CB- He was the star of the Sporting back four, keeping out the likes of Felix, Odafa and Bimeesh Balan and so deservedly won the man of the match.

Sheikh Azeem (Mohammedan Sporting)-CB- He seems to have got back his early season form which helped Mohammedan to finish second in the Kolkata League. Barreto and Bhaichung were kept quiet for most parts of the game and this was mainly because Azim and the rest of the Mohammedan back four had a very good game.

Chinta Chandrashekhar (Sporting Clube de Goa)-LB- He gave his team the lead with one of the best headers of the season and defended brilliantly for the rest of the game.

Anthony Pereira (Dempo)-RM- Anthony is improving in every game and that’s good news for both Dempo and the national team. His pin point crosses created problems for the Mumbai FC defence throughout the game and with a bit more luck he could have had more assists in the match.

Bibiano Fernandes (Sporting Clube de Goa)-CM- When fit, Bibiano is one of the best central midfielders in the country and he showed that again in the Gaon derby as he dominated proceedings in the middle of the park against the likes of Ogba  Kalu Nnanna and Chandam Chitrasen of Churchill.

Climax Lawrence (Dempo)-CM- The Dempo skipper produced a vintage performance against Mumbai FC and is in good form lately. He will be looking to maintain this consistency for the rest of the season.

Clifford Miranda (Dempo)-LM- After Beto he was probably Dempo’s best player on the pitch against Mumbai FC. He scored with a brilliant header and could have had another if not for the woodwork.

Beto (Dempo)-FW-
The Brazilian played alongside Ranti and combined well with the Nigerian for Dempo’s first goal. He looked dangerous throughout the game and was unfortunate not to score one himself.

Yusif Yakubu (East Bengal)-FW-
East Bengal have underperformed this season but Yakubu has done his bit. His brace against Vasco has taken his tally to 7 goals in the league.

Special Mentions:

Wasim Feroz (CB, Mohammedan Sporting) – Like Azeem, Wasim Feroz also put in a brilliant performance against the very dangerous strike partnership of Bhaichung and Barreto.

Felip Gomes (CB, Sporting Clube de Goa) - We have three Sporting defenders in our back four but Felip Gomes also had a good game against Churchill and so deserves a place in the special mentions.

Gurwinder Singh (CB, JCT) - He was easily the most impressive player in an uneventful match between Mahindra and JCT which finished goal less.

Daniel Bedemi (CB, Chirag United) - He got the all important goal against Air India and defended brilliantly to ensure the clean sheet for his team.

Junior Obagbemiro (FW, Sporting Clube de Goa) - He has scored nearly half of his side’s goals this season and could have also scored in the Goan derby but for the brilliance of Arindam Bhattacharya.

Suraj Mondal (FW, Mohammedan Sporting) - The youngster was his team’s best attacking player against Mohun Bagan and has become a hit with the Mohammedan fans after that impressive showing.

Sunil Chettri (FW, East Bengal)
- The Indian international is slowly getting back to his best and is now the joint top Indian scorer along with Subhas Singh with 6 goals after his brace against Vasco.
