I-League: Team Of The Week- Round 10

Round 10 of the I-League is now over and Goal.com's Amoy Ghoshal is back with his team of the week.....

I-League: Bhaichung Bhutia clebrates after his solitary goal against Mahindra United (Mango Peel)

Sangram Mukherjee (Mohun Bagan)-GK- The veteran was in brilliant form yet again as he made quite a few saves to prevent Mahindra from scoring. Bagan’s success has been largely due the strength of their defense which is well supported by Mukherjee in goal.

Rebello Valeriano (Dempo SC)-RB- The Dempo right back played really well against East Bengal on Wednesday. He didn’t allow the Kolkata side to create much from the left hand side and also got forward a number of times to support the attack.

Anit Ghosh (Mohammedan Sporting)-CB- Over the years Ghosh has played in many different positions across the back four and also in midfield. This season he has done extremely well playing as a sweeper in a five-man defence for Mohammedan. He and the rest of the Mohammedan defense did pretty well against the likes of Odafa and Felix and were unlucky not to ensure the clean sheet for their team.

Peter Odafe (Mohun Bagan)-CB- His physical presence in the Bagan back four has been a key factor for Bagan’s revival in the league. Sometimes he is criticized for making mistakes but he was flawless against Mahindra United.

Deepak Mondal (Mohun Bagan)-LB- I-League’s most consistent defender is back in the team of the week. It wasn’t surprising to see Mondal look comfortable while defending but it was certainly refreshing to see him making forwards runs into the Mahindra box.

Jagpreet Singh (JCT)-RM- The 10th round of the I-League saw quite a few central midfielders gifting outstanding performances and so to accommodate Jagpreet, we are keeping him in this team as a right midfielder. The 20 year old was brilliant against East Bengal in the ninth round and was even better against Mumbai FC in the five goal thriller.

Climax Lawrence (Dempo SC)-CM- The Dempo skipper keeps his place in the team of the week after another fine performance, this time against East Bengal. He got the winner and deservedly got the man of the match award.

Bibiano Fernandes (Sporting Clube de Goa)-CM- Bibiano hasn’t been a regular for Sporting this season but he has started for the last few rounds and against Air India he was back to his best. He put in an outstanding performance and helped Sporting to cement top spot.

Snehashish Chakraborty (Chirag United)-LM- He kept up his good form against Vasco and scored a goal time too. Chakraborty has been Chirag’s best player this season and for Chirag to survive he would have to remain consistent for the rest of the campaign.

Abhishek Yadav ( Mumbai FC)-FW- The tall striker completed the Mumbai FC comeback by scoring the winner to cap off an excellent team and individual performance. His return to form would be good news both for his club and the national team.

Bhaichung Bhutia (Mohun Bagan)-FW- The Indian captain finally makes it to the team of the week after scoring the winner against Mahindra.

Special mentions:

There were other players also who did well in the 10th round but narrowly missed out. Here are a few of them:

Subrata Pal (GK, East Bengal)- He kept his side in the game for long periods by making important saves.

N.S.Manju (CB, Mohun Bagan)- Manju was solid as usual against his former club.

Marcos Pereira (CM, Mohun Bagan) - Bagan have not lost a single game with Marcos on the pitch and the Brazilian was in good form once again, this time against Mahindra.

Beto (CM, Dempo SC)- Beto put in a vintage performance against East Bengal and is unlucky not to make it to the best eleven of the week list.

Joseph Periera (LM, Sporting Clube de Goa)- He scored the equalizer against Air India to score his second league goal of the season and was outstanding throughout the game.

Abel Hammond (FW, Mumbai FC)- The striker started the comeback for Mumbai FC by scoring their first goal of the match.

Eduardo Da Silva (FW, JCT)- He was brilliant against Mumbai FC. He scored a goal and caused problems for the opposition throughout the game.

Ranti Martins (FW, Dempo SC)- The Nigerian was denied by Subrata Pal a number of times from adding to his six goals in the I-League.
