I-League: For Adam's Sake - Bencherifa
Mohun Bagan coach Karim Bencherifa dedicated the 2-0 victory over JCT last evening to his son Adam who turned 1 on Friday.
“This one is
for my son Adam,” said Bencherifa, whose parents had come to celebrate their
grandson’s first birthday.
Coming back to the game, the Mohun Bagan coach was miffed that Bhaichung’s goal in the second half was disallowed.
“I don’t know why it was done,” said the coach.
The Moroccan was pleased with his side’s display and hailed James Singh and Jose Baretto for their tireless efforts in particular.
“James was sending some very good crosses while Baretto, in the free role I gave him, was exceptional.
“After Odafe was sent-off, I switched the team to the same formation as against Dempo and it clicked once again. We still attacked despite a man down and didn’t allow JCT many chances.”
Bencherifa was pleased that his side are on course to their target of being top two before the league goes into the winter break.
“We have three games on a trot and against big oppositions – Dempo, Churchill and JCT. Our defence has done well to keep three clean sheets. “We are moving in the right direction.”
The only concern for Bencherifa is Deepak Mandal who is suffering from an ankle problem after suffering a bad tackle from a JCT player in last evening’s encounter.
“We have to review his situation before heading off to Goa to face Vasco.”
