I-League: Beto Drives Dempo - Ishfaq
Mohun Bagan’s in-form winger Ishfaq Ahmed believes that without Beto, Dempo would be a different side altogether.
Beto is set
to miss the game against Mohun Bagan due to a shoulder injury from which he is
still recovering. Ishfaq Ahmed who spent a considerable time at Dempo before
joining Mohun Bagan feels that it’s the Brazilian who drives the Goan side.
“It’s good for us that Beto isn’t playing. He can score and give that final ball to their strikers. I have played for Dempo for four years and know that it’s the Brazilian who is the key behind their success,” said Ishfaq.
“Any player who would come for Dempo would have a tough time. Climax plays even better when alongside Beto. I guess now we have a slight advantage as Marcos could dominate the midfield.”
The Kashmir boy has been in top form despite battling with a bruised knee and is still not completely fit for the Dempo game.
“I am still not 100% but would start. Towards the end of East Bengal game, I couldn’t continue further.”
Against East Bengal last week, Ishfaq played his heart out and won the Man of the Match award. The winger opines that when put up against big players, it brings out the best in him.
“When you are up against Mehtab and Surkumar then you have to raise your level. Mohun Bagan aren’t doing well so we had to attack and the inspiration has to come from somewhere.”
Like every Bagan fan, Ishfaq has pinned his hopes on the famed forward line of Bhaichung and Baretto.
“It will be a good game and I hope Bhaichung-Baretto intimidate the opponents.”
