Odafa lays down the gauntlet to team mates, wants to win all trophies available

The striker believes the squad assembled has all the abilities and makings to go full tilt in the league and other competitions...

Fan favourite and Mohun Bagan striker, Odafa Okolie, has made it clear he means business this season and expects his team to win their first trophy in three years this season. The three-time league top scorer specified, impetuously, that he wants to do this for the fans who have cheered on their beloved maroons through rain, hail and heat.

The Nigerian, who recently returned from his vacation in the off-season, expressed to The Times of India, “Our main goal this season is to win trophies. We all have to play to the best of our ability to make that happen.”

Odafa also lucidly explained that the loss of a few players hasn’t stopped his team form adding quality into the squad. He believes Katsumi Yusa, the Japanese international, will be a super signing for the club and expects the club to fill the allotted quota for foreigners sooner than later, with another superb catch.

“Few players from last season are not with us this time round. I will miss (Syed Rahim) Nabi, Nirmal (Chhetri) and Tolgay (Ozbey),” stated a thoughtful Odafa.

However, he looked to the bright side while continuing, “Our team this year looks good. With the addition of few experienced players, the midfield is quite strong. We also have many new and talented youngsters and we hope to gel together and develop a good understanding.”

Odafa, the former Churchill Brothers player, admitted to immense pressure resonating on and all around him but says he expects that naturally, after being appointed as the captain of a top club.
