thumbnail Hello,

The Netherlands international had been openly considering a move abroad but he has now decided to remain in Amsterdam for at least another season

Ajax have been boosted by the news that captain Siem de Jong has decided against leaving the club this summer.

Just like team-mates Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld, the Netherlands international has been strongly linked with a move away from Amsterdam, with the 24-year-old admitting last month that he felt it might be time for him to take "the next step, abroad".

However, De Jong, who has two years left on his contract, has now come to the conclusion that it would be best for him to stay at Ajax for at least another season and is hoping that Eriksen and Alderweireld do likewise.

"It would be nice if this group stays together," the Swiss-born attacker told his club's official website.

"I have spent the whole pre-season here already and I have a good feeling about the group and the staff.

"I'm here enjoying myself. I do not see why I should go now. I spoke to the coach yesterday and said that they can count on me."

De Jong, who has been capped four times by Netherlands, played a key role in Ajax winning their third successive Dutch title last season.
