The Benfica boss insists that the Primeira Liga is not yet over despite seeing his side fall victim to a dramatic late winner against Porto and slip to second place

Jorge Jesus says that there is still hope of Benfica winning the Primeira Liga despite his side being overtaken at the top of the table with only a single game remaining following a 2-1 defeat to new leaders Porto on Saturday.

The Lisbon-based outfit could have confirmed the league title with a victory at the Dragao but, despite taking the lead through Lima, an own-goal from Maxi Pereira soon afterwards meant the game was heading for a draw, before a dramatic strike from Kelvin in the final minute gave the hosts the three points.

The Benfica coach refused to admit that the league was now beyond his side and vowed to fight until the end to finish above rivals Porto.

"The championship is not lost but it is more difficult," the 58-year-old is quoted as saying by Benfica's official website.

"There were two teams that tried to win the game but football has these unpredictable things. We needed to win and avoid defeat- it cost so much to lose."

Porto sit a point above the Aguias in the table after their victory but Jesus was quick to switch focus to the Europa League final against Chelsea this week rather than dwell on the defeat.

"Now we have to recover the team because on Wednesday we have a final," the former Sporting midfielder concluded.

Porto, with 75 points from 29 games, travel to third-placed Pacos de Ferreira in their last fixture while Benfica host second-from-bottom Moreirense.
