Newcastle in €14.9m swoop for Dutch striker De Jong - report
The Magpies are looking to bolster their attacking options and have reportedly made a bid for the highly-rated FC Twente centre-forward, but the Eredivisie club don't want to sell
Newcastle United have lodged a €14.9m bid for FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong, according to Dutch newspaper AD Sportwereld. The Magpies were the surprise package in the Premier League last season, finishing in fifth place and scoring an impressive 53 goals along the way.
And Alan Pardew is already looking to build on the achievements of the previous campaign, identifying the FC Twente striker as one of the men to take Newcastle to the next level.

| 20/1 | Newcastle are 20/1 with Paddy Power to win the FA Cup next season. |
The 21-year-old, who has one international cap to his name, has been in impressive form for his club, scoring 25 league goals in 32 appearances last season.
However, it looks like Pardew could be made to play hardball to get his man, as Twente president Joop Munsterman is looking to entice Portuguese club Benfica into a bidding war.
It is thought that Munsterman will not settle for less than €22.4m if he is to see his star man move away from the Grolsch Fortress, but has also admitted that the ideal situation would be for De Jong to remain in the Netherlands.
He said: "It is clear that we want to keep Luuk with our club."
