Sa Pinto pens Sporting Lisbon extension

The 39-year-old coach has been offered a one-year contract extension that will potentially see him lead the Lisbon outfit until 2014
Sporting Lisbon coach Ricardo Sa Pinto has been offered a one-year contract extension, a statement on the club's official website revealed on Friday.

Despite an underwhelming first season in charge which saw Sporting finish fourth in the Primeira Liga behind their two great rivals Porto and Benfica, Sa Pinto stepped up in the wake of Domingos Paciencia's dismissal and created a positive atmosphere in the squad.

This led to Sporting reaching the semi-final of the Europa League after dismissing Manchester City, before they were denied a spot in the final following a goal by Fernando Llorente in the dying minutes of the second leg against Athletic Bilbao.
