The ex-CSKA man's goal was all that separated the Rio team from their Ecuadorian opponents, but the forward valued the win over the spectacular display demanded by fansFlamengo's Copa Libertadores hero Vagner Love was unconcerned by the level of performance in Thursday's narrow victory over Emelec, and stated that taking three points was all that mattered at this stage.
After being held to a 1-1 draw in their first group stage clash away to Lanus, the Brazilians once more failed to impress as they struggled to break down their Ecuadorian opponents.
A solitary goal from Love in the second half was nevertheless enough to secure a 1-0 win and maintain the side's unbeaten record in Group 2.
Fans were less than happy with the home side's display, and heckled certain players from the stands. The striker, however, played down the importance of the team's performance and stated that the victory was the most important thing.
"We took the three points, we did our job and that is what the Libertadores is all about. It was just one goal, but it gave us the win," Love explained to Globoesporte.
"[The fans] want to see a party, see goals, more still when it is 11 against 10. It is not always going to happen. In the second half after the goal we slowed down our playing rhythm."
Flamengo resume Libertadores action on March 15, when they face Olimpia at home.
