Corinthians have reportedly ordered Adriano to stay at the club's training centre until Sunday in a desperate bid to whip the player back into shape.

The Brazilian striker was suspended by his club for an indefinite period after showing up for pre-season in poor physical condition
and, despite the best efforts of the champions' medical team, the player remains 4kg overweight.

Consequently, Adriano will now train, eat and sleep at CT Joaquim Grava in the hope that his effective detention at the club's headquarters will enable him to concentrate fully on regaining full fitness.

According to Globoesporte, if the player can get down to 98 or 99kg, he will be drafted back into coach Tite's first-team squad.

Corinthians are said to believe that, with a run of games, Adriano could be in a position to play some part in the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores - should the club progress that far.

Tite must name a 25-man strong squad for the Copa Libertadores on February 14.

Adriano returned to Brazil last March after being released by Roma but his time with Corinthians has been blighted by injury and disciplinary problems.
