Saint-Etienne's Jeremie Janot admits to urinating in a wetsuit to keep warm
With temperatures across Europe currently well below freezing, the eccentric shot-stopper has some novel advice for those trying to fight the affects of the cold
By Mark Doyle
Saint-Etienne's Jeremie Janot has humorously admitted to urinating in a wetsuit to keep warm on the field of play during cold months.
While some European fixtures have been postponed of late due of the adverse weather conditions across the continent, most top-flight games look set to ahead this weekend.
Consequently, Janot has some novel advice for members of the goalkeeping union - including the use of latex gloves.
"I have tried everything but I have not found anything better than a surf suit," he told L'Equipe. "Some keepers like Gregory Coupet do it too.
"Once, when there was 15 minutes to go in the match, I p*ssed in it before going directly to the shower fully clothed."
Janot, who once took to the field in a Spiderman-themed kit before removing the mask just before kick-off, revealed that winter is the worst time of year for keepers.
"For goalies, under the gloves, it is necessary to wear latex medical gloves," the 34-year-old revealed. "Feet, they're a real problem.
"Whoever happens to invent something that works [better], he will make a fortune!
"In any case, the cold, it's still more bearable on the field when you have some shots to save than on the bench. The bench is the worst - even with the covers."
Unfortunately for Janot, he is expected to be on the bench for Saint-Etienne's Ligue 1 clash with Lorient.
