Dimitar Berbatov Hails Manchester United Defence After Blackburn Rovers Win
Striker relieved to win against 'difficult' opposition
Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov praised his team’s defence after they secured a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford.
The champions were without the injured duo of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand with Wes Brown and Jonny Evans featuring at the back in an unfamiliar central defensive pairing.
However, the duo helped keep a clean sheet for the Red Devils, and clearly impressed the Bulgarian who opened the scoring for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men.
“It is always difficult to play against Blackburn Rovers, they had big powerful players who prefer to play long balls and it was difficult,” the striker told ESPN after the game.
“Our defence did magnificent job, we scored two goals and overall we deserved to win.”
Wayne Rooney added the second goal late on and Berbatov admitted that his goal had made the game safe against an unadventurous Rovers outfit.
"In the first half l had a couple of chances to score and then you need to be patient and when another chance comes you need to score it,” he added.
“Obviously I’m glad to have scored and then Wayne [Rooney] scored another one and it was finished for Blackburn.
“We were relieved, it’s also difficult against Blackburn, but always when you score a goal you are relieved because you feel you have achieved something special and that was the case.”
