Chelsea Captain John Terry Wants Drogba & Bosingwa Bans Reduced

The Blues’ skipper is none too pleased with the punishment handed down to the team’s two miscreants…

Chelsea duo, Didier Drogba and Jose Bosingwa were both slapped with a lengthy suspension spell by UEFA following their involvement in the fracas after the team’s exit to Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final in May.

Drogba will now miss a bulk of the Blues’ group phase in next season’s competition after being given a four-game ban while Bosingwa will be barred for three games, but the club’s influential captain, John Terry believes the sentences were too harsh.

“What happened with Didier and the comments he made after the game took the hype away from the referee a little,” he told TalkSPORT.

“It was a very bad performance from him [Tom Ovrebo], we all realised that. There were three or four clear penalty decisions that we should have had and that is something that, as a fan and as a player, you will never forget.

“It was disappointing. I would like the people in charge to take these things into perspective and also realise that after the game, Didier came out and apologised for his actions.

“I think he realised that kids were watching and he deserves the ban. But to that extent? I don’t think so. Maybe a two-match ban,” he elaborated.

Terry was equally supportive of Bosingwa, eventhough the Portuguese called Ovrebo ‘a thief’ during his post-match press conference.

“As for Bosingwa’s ban… I don’t know where that came from,” he said.

“Obviously, every player was feeling what Bosingwa felt and thankfully, nobody else said what he said. But he only said what every fan and every player was thinking.

“Hopefully, Chelsea can appeal and we can get the ban down a little because we want those two for the campaign next season.”
