Mohun Bagan To Train At Salt Lake In The Evenings If Need Be...

‘All’s well that ends well’ is a famous Shakespearean quote. West Bengal sports minister Subhash Chakraborty has resolved the differences between Mohun Bagan and Bengal Hockey Association (BHA) which had occurred over as to who would practice on the former’s training ground.

On Monday, Mohun Bagan arrived for their morning training session and saw the hockey players practicing. Once Bagan started their training, a few policemen and BHA officials had a heated discussion as to who had the right to train at the ground.

Speaking to Goal.com late last night, Mohun Bagan secretary Anjan Mitra said, “Earlier, sports was played according to seasons – cricket, football, hockey and so on. This has been going on for the last 70 years.

“Now football is no more a seasonal sport. It goes on for almost 11 months. We asked the hockey association to play in some other ground but they didn’t want to.

“After a meeting with the sports minister, it was decided that every morning we shall train at Mohun Bagan ground and in the evening the hockey players would come for practice. We shall train at the Salt Lake Stadium in the evening. The government shall bear the expenses for the floodlights.”

Subhash Chakraborty mentioned that the Mohun Bagan ground belonged to the state government and it was their decision as to who would use it.
