Juande Ramos Holds First Real Madrid Training Session

It's straight back to work at the Spanish capital as the headlines slowly fade away and football is at the helm once more...

Newly appointed Real Madrid coach Juande Ramos has held his first ever training session at Valdebabas this evening. With Schuster being sacked earlier this morning, training was postponed to allow the Spanish tactician to settle in.

Ramos, who is deailng with an extremely fragile squad at the moment, started off with fitness excercises led by Marcos Alvarez. Injured duo Wesley Sneijder and Miguel Torres did some fitness excercises of their own, away from the rest of the group.

The players then moved on to ball work. Ramos instruced his men to play a game of piggy in the middle, followed by some passing routines and one touch football.

The good news of the day was the return of  Royston Drenthe, who retired early yesterday after feeling some discomfort in his right leg. The Dutch winger was full of energy and is likely to feature next week during el Clasico.

Youth teamers Alberto Bueno, Chema Anton, and David Mateos were on hand to gain some first team experience. Bueno, who has had his fair share of football under Bernd Schuster, is very likely to play against Zenit tomorrow night.

Heinze, Pepe, and Van Nistelrooy worked hard in the gym. Ramos checked on them mid-way through the session. On the other hand, midfielders Mahamadou Diarra and Ruben de la Red continue to rest after both suffering serious injuries earlier this winter.

Ramos named his first squad of 18 men for tomorrow's encounter; the same players called up against Sevilla last weekend.
