Player Ratings: Bordeaux 1-1 Chelsea

A late Alou Diarra goal equalised Nicolas Anelka’s opener as honours ended even between Bordeaux and Chelsea tonight. Goal.com rates the performers …

Champions League : Yohann Gourcuff (Bordeaux) vs John Terry (Chelsea)

BORDEAUX

Valverde: 6.0 - In for the injured Rame and was a virtual spectator in the first half. Possibly went to ground too early which allowed Anelka a relatively easy finish and looked nervy handling a Lampard shot.

Chalme: 7.0 - The full back was a threat going forwards and tested Cech with a decent shot. Caused Ashley Cole problems and restricted his attacking forays.

Planus: 7.0 - A confident display, ensured his side were difficult to break down and frustrated the Chelsea attack.

Diawara: 6.0 – A nervy showing, didn’t look confident in possession and gave the ball away far too frequently.

Jurietti: 6.5 - Did well against Joe Cole who looked frustrated by his close attentions but offered little going forwards.

Fernando: 6.5 - A good early shot tested Cech and he was a lively presence in midfield with good delivery.

Diarra: 7.0 - A hard working display, broke play up well and ensured Chelsea couldn’t settle into a passing rhythmn. Super header for the equaliser.

Gourcuff: 7.0 - The brightest spark on the pitch. Super technique, great delivery and he rattled the Blues.  Lovely turn and shot in the first half was his best moment.

Gouffran: 6.5 - Some surging runs in midfield and direct play was good to see in the first half but he faded and was replaced by Cavenaghi as Laurent Blanc sought an equaliser.

Wendell: 6.0 - Involved throughout and worked extremely hard but couldn’t make the vital breakthrough.

Chamakh: 6.0 - Brought others into the play well but chances were few and far between and had few sights of Cech’s goal.

Substitutions

Cavenaghi: 6.0 - Late shot almost won it but flew inches wide.

Obertan: 6.5 - The 19-year-old arrived late on and wasn’t afraid to get on the ball and go forwards.

CHELSEA

Cech: 7.0 - Made a succession of saves in the first half and handled everything thrown at him. Will have expected better from his defence for the equaliser.

Bosingwa: 6.0 - Lacked fight and was unusually lacklustre going forwards. Far from his best performance.

Ivanovic: 5.5 - Some nervous clearances and simply stood and watched as Diarra headed in the equaliser.

Terry:  6.0 - Was troubled by the pace of Bordeaux and looked rattled at times. Awful marking by his team for the equaliser for which the skipper must accept some blame.

Ashley Cole: 6.0 - Had his hands full defensively and didn’t get forwards as much as he might have liked.

Mikel: 6.0 - Plenty of short, neat passes and defensively sound, but needed to be such was the pressure the Blues were under at times.

Joe Cole: 6.5 - Perhaps tellingly his best moments were tracking back, in particular a super challenge on Gouffran. Couldn't provide the creativity the Blues so desperately needed.

Ballack: 6.0 - In for Deco and looked more than a little rusty. Made a good late clearance but the Portuguese was sorely missed.

Lampard: 6.0 - A poor first half display but some quick thinking and a clever pass set up Anelka for the goal. Loses points after being sent off late on after picking up his second yellow card of the evening.

Malouda: 5.5 - One good run early on saw him get to the byline, wriggle past his marker and get the ball in. Otherwise fairly anonymous.

Anelka: 6.5- Spent the first half getting caught offside but scored the goal with his only opportunity of the game before promptly being replaced.

Substitutions

Drogba: 5.5 - Given the last half an hour but offered little.

Ferreira: n/a
