Vision Asia Project For Maldives
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Mohammed Bin Hammam has confirmed that Vision Maldives will be launched by March 2009 to boost football on the Indian Ocean island.
AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam welcomed the Maldivian team with the newly elected President of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Ali Azim and said, "“It will be AFC’s endeavour to launch Vision Maldives by March 2009.” “AFC is fully committed to providing whatever support the FA of Maldives need to raise their level of football,” said Bin Hammam, who was quoted as saying by AFC website.
After the assurance from AFC chief, Maldivian FA president Azim said, "Football is the most popular sport in our country and an all-round project like Vision Asia will do wonders for the game.” Azim also described that FA ia facing the problem to make clubs professional. “Our clubs regularly play in AFC competitions but Vision Asia will take the game to a whole new level. We are looking forward to it.” “Our biggest challenge is to professionalise the clubs.”
Vision Asia is the AFC’s continent-wide programme to lift the standard of football at all levels. Bahrain, Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Oman, the Philippines, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and the Northern Mariana Islands have already recieved Vision Asia project.
