Super Mario's Admission: I'm A Barça Fan
In-demand striker Mario Gomez had added steam to the rumour mill by admitting that he is a Barcelona fan.
When German sports daily Spox pressed him on the incessant speculation tipping him for a summer-switch, he remained coy at first by saying: "I don't want to talk about this now. It's not something that interests me."
But when they reminded him that he had previously expressed a desire to play for Barcelona, he said with a smile: "I'd like to answer that this way, I am a fan of Barcelona."
Gomez has scored 45 goals in 101 appearances for the Swabians since his debut in 2003 and has also hit the back of the net six times in 19 internationals for Germany. This season he has bagged six in 12 games.
The towering striker would almost certainly have earned himself a dream move already had he not had such a shockingly bad Euro 2008 for Germany.
