Nepal: ANFA Selects Squad For Merdeka Cup

Newly appointed care taker coach Krishna Thapa has excluded in-form Parbat Pandey and playmaker Ananta Thapa while announcing the final squad for up-coming Merdeka Cup Football Tournament to be played in Malaysia.

But Anil Gurung, who was injured at the close camp for the AFC Challenge Cup qualifying round, was selected in the national squad for the Merdeka Cup slated from October 15-25 in Malaysia. Gurung had played a crucial role scoring against Pakistan in friendly series in Pokhara last year.

Coach Thapa, who himself took part in the Merdeka Cup 25 years ago as player, selected Bikash Malla, Ritesh Thapa as goalkeepers. Rakesh Shrestha, Chun Bahadur Thapa, Sagar Thapa, Bikash Singh Chetri, Suman Subedi, Biraj Maharjan, Anjan K.C, Rabin Shrestha as defenders, Ranjit Shrestha, Sandeev Rai, Bhola Silwal, Bishan Gauchan, Bijaya Gurung, Nirajan Khadka as mid fielder and Nirajan Rayamajhi, Jumanu Rai, Yugal Kishor Rai as strikers.

Along with Nepal, host Malaysia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sierra Leon, Afghanistan and Kazakhstan are taking part in the event where the winner will get 10,000 US Dollar and the runners up will get 5,000 US Dollar.
