Churchill Blasts Emeka's Tactics, Defends Players
Churchill Brothers' patron Mr.Churchill Alemao has blasted Coach Emeka Ezeugo for issuing statements in the press against the players and stated that the Nigerian’s tactics have proved futile.
Emeka Ezeugo has publicly spoken about his players in the just concluded Durand Cup with skipper Odafa Okolie and Indian internationals Gourmanagi Singh and Govin Singh being at the receiving end.
Speaking to Goal.com, Mr.Churchill said,”Gouramangi Singh is the best defender in the country and so is Govin. This coach maybe a World Cupper but he doesn’t understand the Indian system. My players are the best in the country and he has spoiled the team’s chances by employing strange systems.
“I don’t understand what is he trying to do? He plays 3-6-1. Henceforth, I announce that we shall play 4-4-2. He has no control over his temper and that is not good.”
Mr.Churchill further blamed the Durand Cup loss on the coach as he killed the spirit of the team. “We lost for two reasons – the first being the tactics employed by this coach. The second being the horrible decision by the referee by which Mahindra scored their second.”
When asked as to what Mr.Churchill has in plan for the club given the internal trouble the club is facing, he said, “First we had problems between Karim (Bencherifa) and Odafa. Now we shall tell the coach to get things right or else pack your bags and leave.”
Karim Bencherifa, the now Mohun Bagan coach, was reported to have problems with Odafa Okolie though the duo have denied about the same in media. This was one of the primary reasons for the Moroccan coach to move on from the Goan club where he had a set of dedicated boys under him.
Following Karim’s departure to Kolkata, Emeka Ezeugo took over and the situation has worsened each day at the club. In an exclusive report by Goal.com, it was revealed as to how the Nigerian’s training methods were taking toll on the players and how the squad revolted against the same. Before the Durand Cup, the coach left out defender Naoba Singh and versatile player Zenith despite being completely fit for the tournament. Naoba was one of the star performers for Churchill Brothers’ last season.
Mr.Churchill has paid an advance for the coming months to Emeka as well and the patron is assured that the coach would have to pay that up before leaving.
“We had an agreement which said that if the management isn’t satisfied and then he would have to return the money and leave. Then, we will see what can be done.”
