Live Commentary

  • Thats a wrap for today folks but be sure to stick around the site for post-match reaction from all of today's Premier League games.
  • That was Wigan's first home clean sheet this season and they're now upwardly mobile. QPR up next for Roberto Martinez's men. Win that and they'll be in a commanding position.
  • Norwich now peering cautiously over their shoulder after slipping to within four points of the drop zone. Really needed to pick up a result today but once again lacked the cutting edge up front. Chris Hughton's decision to play a lone striker backfired.
  • FULL TIME and Wigan have secured a massive three points that lifts them out of the relegation zone. Arouna Kone the Latics match winner 10 minutes from time and the great escape continues to build momentum.
  • 90' + 3'
    SubstitutionArouna Kone Franco Di Santo
Wigan preparing to wind down the clock as Franco Di Santo comes on for Kone who receives a standing ovation.
  • 90'
Fourth official holds up his board and it shows three minutes will be added on.
  • 87'
    Yellow Card Grant Holt
Holt is booked for remonstrating with the assistant referee after he awarded a throw in to Wigan.
  • 85'
    SubstitutionWesley Hoolahan Luciano Becchio
  • 85'
    SubstitutionJavier Garrido Luciano Becchio
Oh how Chris Hughton could do with Becchio opening his Norwich goalscoring account in next five minutes.
  • 85'
    SubstitutionJonny Howson Alexander Tettey
Alexander Tettey and Luciano Becchio on for Howson and Hoolahan.
  • 81'
    Assist Jordi Gómez
  • 81'
    Goal Arouna Kone
FINALLY the deadlock is broke and Wigan's pressure is rewarded with 10 minutes remaining. Referee Howard Webb plays an excellent advantage in the middle of the pitch, Gomez releases Kone behind the Canaries defence and he thunders a shot past Camp at the near post.
  • 80'
    SubstitutionKei Kamara Grant Holt
Chris Hughton is going for it as Grant Holt is sent on in place of Kamara.
  • 77'
Wigan again carve Norwich open down the left with Beausejour setting up Gomez eight-yards out but his fiercely struck effort is miraculously kept out by a Michael Turner
  • 76'
McCarthy shrugs off the attentions of Johnson and finds space to shoot but his 25-yard effort streaks just wide.
  • 74'
Alcaraz again comes to Wigan's rescue with a goal saving tackle to deny Snodgrass the chance to shoot after he was released into acres of space down the left.
  • 71'
Heart stopping moment for Wigan. Snodgrass dinks a ball into the penalty area that is challenged by two Norwich players. Howard Webb's whistle is heard in the distance but its to award a free kick to the home side.
  • 69'
Excellent defending from Howson to hack a towering header from Alcaraz off the line from Beausejour's deep corner.
  • 67'
    SubstitutionCallum McManaman James McArthur
McManaman's afternoon comes to an end as he is replaced by James McArthur for Wigan.
  • 66'
Long range specialist Figueroa lines up an ambitious 35 yarder that fizzes and bends well wide of the goal.
  • 63'
More bright play from McManaman as he cuts in from the right and tees up Gomez to scoop a shot well over Camp's crossbar.
  • 61'
Alcaraz is on hand to bail out defensive colleague Scharner after he gifted the ball to Hoolahan on the half way line. The Wigan number three meets Snodgrass' whipped left wing cross with a storming defensive header to prevent it from reaching the primed Kamara.
  • 57'
Chance for Norwich! Johnson plays a neat one-two with Bennett on the edge of Wigan's penalty area before steadying himself and firing well wide.
  • 56'
Another chance goes begging for Wigan. A short corner routine between Maloney and Beausejour creates space for the former just inside the Norwich box. Sadly the Scotland attacker suffers a momentary lapse of composure and smashes the ball horribly over the bar.
  • 55'
    Yellow Card Elliott Bennett
McCarthy clips the ball cutely between Johnson's legs and is brought down in the centre circle by Bennett who is subsequently shown a yellow card by Howard Webb.
  • 51'
Whilst this has been far from a classic a lot of praise has to go to Chris Hughton who has clearly told his team to play a high line and restrict the amount of space Wigan have got to work in. It's working perfectly so far.
  • 48'
Tentative start to the second half from both teams. Maloney forcing a corner off Russell Martin with an ingenious back heel the highlight so far.
  • 45'
Wigan get us back underway in the second half. Massive 45 minutes for them in the context of their season and battle to avoid relegation.
  • Norwich, albeit they've struggled to fashion a clear sight of goal, have moved the ball rhythmically at times. Could do with an extra striker (Grant Holt?!) on the field to support Kamara.
  • For a team that know a win will lift them out of the bottom three Wigan barely broke sweat before the interval. Apart from Kone's two half-chances and McManaman's scuff they've rarely set the alarm bells ringing in the Norwich rearguard
  • From LIVE correspondant Alex Fisher at the DW Stadium: "It has been a 45 minutes that can quickly be erased from the memory as neither Wigan or Norwich really have taken control of the game. The Latics have probably had the better of the few chances but have been wasteful in front of goal."
  • Half time at the DW Stadium and its goalless between Wigan and Norwich as both sets of players trudge back to the dressing room.
  • 40'
Hoolahan lines up a volley but is thwarted by an excellent block from Alcaraz. Norwich have scored just three times in their last six games and it's showing.
  • 39'
Maloney prevents Norwich from breaking by fouling Hoolahan after Gomez lost possession cheaply in midfield.
  • 35'
Camp called into action for the first this afternoon, scrambling across goal to keep out a weak shot from Kone following more good work from Beausejour and Maloney on the left.
  • 34'
Another chance goes begging for Wigan. It's Beausejour causing problems for Norwich on the left again and his cross finds McManaman but the winger can't make clean contact with the ball and allows the visiting defence to clear.
  • 32'
Snodgrass unhappy with Howard Webb after he is penalised for a trip on Alcaraz in the centre circle. Looked as if the Norwich man had played the ball.
  • 30'
Good, positive play from McManaman down the Wigan right. Has Garrido and Snodgrass for company but tries to take them on anyway and manages to get in a cross that sails behind. Its the kind of endeavor the home side have lacked so far.
  • 27'
Kone goes mightily close to breaking the deadlock at the DW Stadium with first time shot that bobbles just past the post after being teed up by a instinctive first time flick from Jordi Gomez following McCarthy's pass.
  • 23'
Lovely quick feet from Wes Hoolahan to nip past McCarthy whose outstretched leg sends the Norwich playmaker to the turf. Resulting free kick from Bennett smacks straight into the Wigan wall.
  • 22'
There is a serious amount of lethargy from Wigan today when they have possession, all too often a lack of movement restricts their play which allows Norwich to break on the counter attack.
  • 20'
Another Wigan corner is defended well by Norwich and leads to another break by the away side that sadly peters out thanks in no part to Snodgrass' wayward strike that flashes well wide of Robles' goal.
  • 17'
Good defending from Maynor Figueroa to stop Bennett from finding space for the cross. Corner eventually finds its way to Bassong but his wild slash at the ball goes out for a throw.
  • 13'
Norwich are doing a splendid job of stifling Wigan in the final third. Really holding their ground and forcing the Latics to patiently probe.
  • 11'
Almost a wonderful pass from James McCarthy to release Kone in behind the Norwich defence. Just couldn't quite engineer enough bend on the ball to find the Ivorian striker.
  • 9'
    Yellow Card Paul Scharner
First booking of the game goes to Paul Scharner who clips Robert Snodgrass as he runs across the Wigan defender. Free kick to Norwich on the left side.
  • 9'
Snodgrass rolls the ball to Elliott Bennett but he is denied a clear shooting opportunity by Arouna Kone of all people.
  • 7'
Norwich really are moving the ball with purpose in a similar style to their cultured hosts.
  • 4'
Visitors looking particularly blunt in attack during the opening stages. Seen plenty of the ball in and around the Wigan box but the best they can conjure is a deep cross from Javier Garrido on the left flank.
  • 2'
Wigan's first real attack puts the Norwich defence on the back foot. Jean Beausejour scampers down the left flank and fizzes a low ball across the box that is dealt with by Sebastian Bassong.
  • Howard Webb blows his whistle and the first half is underway. Wigan shooting from left to right at a sunny DW Stadium.
  • Teams are out and warming up. All eyes trained on Wigan winger Callum McManaman this afternoon for obvious reasons.
  • Wigan unchanged following their home win against Newcastle a fortnight ago. Norwich forced into one change. Lee Camp starts in goal as Mark Bunn is suspended.
  • Norwich: Camp; R.Martin, Bassong, Turner, Garrido; Johnson, Howson, Snodgrass, E.Bennett, Hoolahan; Kamara. Subs: Steer; Whittaker, Holt, Fox, Becchio, Tierney, Tettey
  • Wigan: Robles; Scharner, Alcaraz, Figueroa; Boyce, McArthur, Gomez, Beausejour; McManaman, Kone, Maloney. Subs: Al Habsi, Caldwell, Di Santo, Henriquez, McArthur, Espinoza, Stam
  • Starting lineups are also in. Lets start with today's hosts.
  • Norwich are not quite reaching for the panic button just yet but it might not be far away if they were to lose today. The Canaries have only won once in the Premier League in 2013, that’s one win in 10 games, and defeat today would bring Wigan to within four points of Chris Hughton’s side.
  • Wigan have officially started their end of season upturn in form and have won four of their last five matches, impressing everyone with their destruction of Everton in the FA Cup and their battling performance to beat Newcastle in their last outing.
  • Wigan and Norwich have only met each other eight times in their history and this is only their sixth league meeting. Today’s game is a massive fixture for both clubs, a home win would see the Latics drag their opponents into the relegation dogfight and an away victory could push the Canaries closer to that 40 point mark."
  • Here are some pre-match tidbits to sink your teeth into from our LIVE correspondent Alex Fisher who is at the DW Stadium.
  • Good afternoon and welcome to Goal's live coverage of Wigan v Norwich. This is a crucial game for both teams with the home side gunning to push themselves closer to Premier League saftey.
