S. Berahino 86'
Well, that's all from me today. I hope that you have enjoyed our coverage and I hope to be keeping you up to date with more football action soon. I have been Hayden Gribble and you have been most welcome!
FULL TIME - WEST BROM 1-0 NEWCASTLE. The Baggies win their first Premier League game in ten after a solid display against a ten-man Magpies side. Second half substitute Berahino smashed a late penalty past Krul to make the points safe but it could have been more had it not been for some woeful finishing from the home side. For Alan Pardew's men, it has been a bad day at the office by all accounts.
90' + 4'
CABAYE SHOOTS! ...And Foster makes an easy save. Surely that is the final piece of action in this game?
90' + 3'
Yacob concedes a late corner as the Baggies attempt to park the bus. Krul comes up for the set piece but it is dealt with by the home side. They are nearly there!
There will be FOUR minutes of added on time.
What can Newcastle do to grab a point here? They look outrun, out thought and outnumbered out there by a West Brom side whose season could hinge on this game.
Penalty Goal Saido Berahino
GOAL! Berahino smashes it low to Krul's left hand corner. The Baggies are bouncing as a first win in ten now looks like it is on the cards!
PENALTY TO WEST BROM! Brunt lays the ball through to Vydra - who is brought down by Krul! The referee points to the spot as Berahino steps up to take it...
Despite the pressure from the host you just get the feeling that if Newcastle can hit the Baggies on the counter attack it will bear fruit. We are into the final ten minutes plus stoppage time.
WHAT A MISS! Ridgewell has emulated the efforts of his teammate Anelka in the frist half by missing a sitter form close range. The left-back is unmarked in the area and manages to poke a low cross wide.
STAT ATTACK: West Brom are on a run of nine Premier League games without a victory (D5, L4).
The home support are trying to roar their charges on but the final ball is seriously letting the side down. But then again, all it take is one moment to find the net!
HIGH AND WIDE! Brunt slips as he pulls the trigger and manages to level his shot into the crowd. West Brom will be annoyed if they cannot capitalise on their numerical advantage.
CLOSE! The Baggies are really going for this now! Berahino finds some room on the left-hand-side of the box but his low shot is smothered by Krul.
WORRYING TIMES FOR NEWCASTLE. Both Cabaye and Tiote are struggling with injuries at the moment. The former limps off the pitch to receive treatment leaving the Mapgies down to nine men for the time being!
The Baggies really are trying to make the extra man count. Anelka is finding the ball at his feet more in the final third but the Magpies are putting as many bodies as they can behind the ball.
STAT ATTACK: Seven of Newcastle's 10 league wins have been by a single-goal margin.
So far Ben Arfa's introduction in this half has gone largely unnoticed and both sides are still struggling to find the first goal of the game here.
It looks like Coloccini has picked up a knock and will now make way for Yanga-Mbiwa. The Newcastle faithful will be biting their nails and hoping for a quick return for their captain.
Red Card Mathieu Debuchy
RED CARD! The game has suddenly come to life as Debuchy is sent off for a reckless, two-footed challenge on Yacob. He had to go and that will wake the Hawthorns faithful up!
AS IT STANDS. Newcastle will rise above Tottenham level on points with the North London side and Manchester United - who both play later on today. For West Brom, they will remain two points off the relegation places.
OVER! Such a good chance for the normally deadly Remy to deliver, but the Frenchman puts his effort in the box high and wide after an inviting cross from Ameobi.
The cut and thrust tempo in the opening exhanges between these two have well and truly dampened in the Midlands rain. Surely there will be a goal in this somewhere!
SAVE! Foster is drawn into a smart save as Tiote takes aim from distance.
STAT ATTACK: Caretaker boss Keith Downing has drawn all three of his games in charge of West Brom.
Berahino sends Sissoko crashing to the floor and the referee blows for a foul on the midfielder.
The Baggies have applied early pressure here but the visitors are containing any assault on goal at the moment.
Hatem Ben Arfa
West Brom get us back underway!
It looks like Hatem Ben Arfa will be introduced in this second half. Will he make the difference?
HALFTIME - WEST BROM 0-0 NEWCASTLE. The teams go in level at the break but both sides should have scored in a game full of chances but short on goals. Cabaye wasted a glorious chance before Anelka missed as the goal was gaping just before the break. The second half is coming right up.
There will be ONE minute of added on time.
OVER! How on earth has that not gone in!? Amalfitano puts a low cross into Anelka who blasts it over from six yards.
BLOCKED! The playmaker fires a low shot straight at the wall and it goes out for a corner. That pretty much sums up the half!
Mulumbu fouls Ameobi 20 yards from goal and the referee points for the free-kick. This is Cabaye territory...
The game has hit a bit of a lull in the last few minutes. The weather conditions really aren't helping but as halftime looms, someone surely has to break the deadlock soon!
STAT ATTACK: Alan Pardew's side have scored the first goal in 12 of 19 league games - going on to win nine of those matches.
Both sides are looking to use the counter attack to full effect making this a really open game in the howling wind and rain. All we are missing is a goal!
WIDE AGAIN! Brunt, unmarked in the box, fails to hit the target with his header following good work from Amalfitano down the right again.
CLOSE! Amalfitano floats a corner in from the left and finds Olsson, but the defender loops his header wide.
MISS! Big, BIG chance for Newcastle to go in front here. Williamson nods the ball down roughly 15 yards out for Cabaye, who lashes it wide. The Frenchman has his head in his hands and should have done better.
CHANCE! Debucy plays a wonderful cross into the box and Gouffran flicks a header towards the backpost but fails to find a teammate.
OUCH! A deflected Newcastle shot means a collison between Foster and Jones. It looks like the defender was whacked on the head by his keeper and the medical staff are on the pitch. Both should be fine to continue.
Tiote is swarming all over Amalfitano on the byeline and puts the ball out for a goal kick - much to the frustration of the West Brom player who thought he was fouled.
STAT ATTACK: Nicolas Anelka has scored six times against Newcastle in the Premier League.
BLOCKED! Remy picks up a corner outside the area and fires a low shot on goal, but his effort is blocked by fellow Frenchman Anelka.
WIDE! Sessegnon plays the ball out wide to Amalfitano, who decides to shoot instead of finding Anelka in the box.
Newcastle seem content to slow the pace of the game down at the moment and retain possession. The Hawthorns faithful roars their team on but still no breakthrough here for either side.
CHANCE! Amalfitano is at it again. The midfielder gets away from Santon and swings his cross just too close to Krul, who collects.
The tempo of the game is starting to settle here but it remains an open game. We could have a real game on under the floodlights today!
The home side are coming into this game now as Brunt swings a dangerous free-kick into the box but Krul is equal to it and punches the ball clear.
SAVE! Tim Krul is drawn into making a standard save after Amalfitano's turn and shot on the edge of the area is a weak one.
It has been the visitors in their changed strip of yellow shirts and blue shorts who have started the brightest. There is a sense of urgency about Newcastle's play but neither goalkeepers have been troubled yet.
Ameobi is judged to have fouled Olsson in the Baggies' penalty area. The free-kick is taken by keeper Foster.
The referee gets us underway as Newcastle kick from right to left.
Before kick-off there will be a minutes applause for former Baggies chairman John Silk, who sadly passed away yesterday following a short illness. He was 89.
Both sets of teams are ready in the tunnel...kick off is just moments away!
Meanwhile Alan Pardew makes just one change to the Mapgies first eleven today by bringing in Shola Ameobi for Vurnon Anita. The Geordies have enjoyed a fruitful season so far on the road - can they keep that form up today?
The major talking point in the Baggies' line-up is that Nicolas Anelka - who is being investigated by the Football Association following his controversial goal celebration last time out against West Ham - starts at the Hawthorns. Chris Brunt also makes a return following a back injury.
Newcastle (4-3-3): Krul; Debuchy, Coloccini, Williamson, Santon; Cabaye, Tiote, Sissoko; Remy, Shola Ameobi, Gouffran. Subs: Elliot, Haidara, Yanga-Mbiwa, S.Taylor, Anita, Ben Arfa, Cisse.
West Brom (4-5-1): Foster; Jones, McAuley, Olsson, Ridgewell; Mulumbu, Yacob, Amalfitano, Sessegnon, Brunt; Anelka. Subs: Myhill, Vydra, Berahino, Gera, Morrison, Long, Lugano.
Good afternoon and Happy New Year to you all! Welcome to this Premier League clash between West Brom and Newcastle. I am Hayden Gribble and I hope you party animals are ready to see in 2014 with a game to remember here. Well, here's hoping, eh! The team news will be with you shortly.
