A good performance from the 25-year-old as he dealt with everything that was thrown at him. Totally dominant inside his own box, he showed great hands to pluck almost every Rayo cross out of the sky.
Enjoyed a lot of freedom and space down the left in the first half as he and Mathieu continually troubled Tito. He helped out defensively in the second half but got forward to score the game-changing second goal.
He was an unmovable force at the back and also provided a physical presence in opposing area. Made a great recovery to deny Bangoura in 19th minute and helped nullify the threat of Diego Costa.
It was a very quiet night for the right-back as he was not his usual self. Rarely contributed going forward and was faced with very little defensively.
A solid display at centre-back as he kept Diego Costa quiet until the striker was gifted a goal. He was difficult to beat in defence and had a goal ruled out in the final 10 minutes that could have stood on another day.
Provided much of the attacking impetus down the left during Valencia's best spell in the first half. He initiated plays with pass-and-move football and kept up his defensive duties too. Became less adventurous in the second half until the game was won.
His touch looked heavy early on but he did well to lose his marker in the build-up to the opening goal. Exposed Pulido's slip to supply the cross for the second goal and shook off the defender before earning his side a penalty.
Got in some good positions in the first half but faded into the background in the second half. Saw his first-half effort turned behind by Joel with a great save but vanished in the second period. He then gifted Rayo a goal with a sloppy back pass.
Bossed the midfield as he operated just in front of his defenders. He picked apart the play adeptly and was composed on the ball, playing the simple pass to set his team on their way to the Rayo half.
Was allowed a bit more freedom from his deep-lying role due to Topal's screening. He drove forward occasionally and supplied some great deliveries but ultimately influenced the game fairly minimally.
Despite an extremely quiet game, he did what all good strikers do and take their chances when they get them. He drilled in his first chance shortly before the break and the scored his side's third with a composed penalty.
A number of early touches set the theme for a decent evening. Made a great save to deny Pablo and Feghouli but could do nothing about Jonas firing in the rebound. He was unfortunate to have been beaten four times.
Played a minimal role as his team were overrun by the hosts. Substituted midway through the first half after a clash of heads.
Hardly used during the first half and only made a single forward run in the second. Moved onto the left wing he was rarely used as an attacking outlet and added little to his side.
Looked to feed Bangoura down the right early on but was soon forced to focus on defence when confronted by Jordi Alba and Mathieu. He was outplayed by the pair and offered too many opportunities for the hosts.
Was shifted to left-back following Labaka's injury and struggled all night. His slip was exposed by Feghouli and he then lost the Algerian in the build-up to penalty. An awful display that help hand Valencia the win.
Made a number of key interceptions and challenges throughout the game and organised his defence well. However, he conceded the penalty for Valencia's third that put the game beyond his side.
Assisted his defence in keeping Valencia restricted to the one goal for much of the game. However, he made a number of poorly judged tackles and seemed well off the pace at times.
He made a few good passes but contributed very little as Topal marked him out of the game. He did well to capitalise on Hernandez's error and assist Diego Costa that gave Rayo a glimmer of hope.
An extremely ineffectual and invisible display in the middle of the park. Rayo hardly competed in the midfield as they struggled to get a hold of the game. When his team were on top early in the second half he was nowhere to be seen.
Could have put his side ahead in the first half but a poor first touch let him down. Always looked to get on the ball and run at defenders but he was fairly greedy, going for ambitious shots rather than the simple pass.
- 1 Diego Alves
- 15 Dealbert
Continued his return from injury with five minutes of football and did not have time to impact the game.
Played just over 10 minutes but managed to make a telling contribution with an excellent assist for Hernandez in the 88th minute.
Was given 30 minutes and kept the midfield ticking over. His introduction helped spur Valencia on to their second goal, and ultimately the win.

- 27 Paco Alcácer
- 1 Cobeño
- 38 Roberto Correa
- 29 Diego Benito
Came on with just over 30 minutes played and did not look comfortable out of position in the centre of defence. Further to that it forced Pulido out wide who had a torrid game. The pair tried to limit the space for Jonas but he still bagged a brace.
Played the final 10 minutes but did not have enough time to impact the game.
Was given the second half to try and get Rayo back into the game but struggled to get in goal scoring positions. With just over 80 minutes played he saw his header saved superbly by Guaita
