  PREVIEW

Prayag United will host Sporting Clube de Goa in an important fixture in the 13th round of I-League. Eelco Schattorie will try to bring Prayag back to track after they suffered a 1-3 humiliation in the hands of Pune FC last weekend.

For the Goans, it will be a battle to keep them out of the relegation zone. Due to the construction work going on in Salt Lake Stadium, this match has been shifted to Kalyani.

Prayag United, arguably possesses the most talented side of the I-League. They have quality players in
every position, but have failed to transform their potential into success so far. They have 17 points
from their 12 matches and are in the 6th place in the league-table. Ranti Martins has been as
extraordinary as ever, having scored 14 goals already.

The midfield relies much on Carlos Hernandez, who plays in the number 10 role behind the striker. With
experienced campaigners like Lalkamal Bhowmick breaking up opposition's attacks and passing the ball with efficiency, the team has  got no worries with regards to scoring goals. The defense has the likes of Deepak Mandal and Gouramangi Moirangthem, who have a formidable pedigree.

Prayag have been inconsistent this season...

Still the side has succumbed to adverse conditions. Eelco has resorted to many excuses of late, but they don’t sound good when you have such a talented pack of players in your side. The team was made with a vision of winning the league and that already looks like a distant dream.

Inconsistency has been their key problem. After their impressive win against East Bengal, they went
down to the Red Lizards with a lackluster performance. On paper though, they should dispatch Sporting with ease, as the Goans are ridden with problems.

The Flaming Oranje, now under the supervision of their new Spaniard supervisor Oscar Bruzon, have only managed to gather 8 points from their 11 outings this season. In the last match, they suffered an 8-4 hammering by the hands of Churchill Brothers.

The team has rarely performed well this season. Dawson Fernandes is the highest scorer of the side with 5 goals to his name. The team has experienced footballers like Ogba Kalu who has impressed so far in his stint in India. Prone to conceding soft goals, Ranti Martins must be relishing the clash against the Goans.

  TEAM NEWS

Prayag United:- Bello Rassaq is suspended from the tie while Carlos Hernandez looks an unlikely starter due to a groin injury.

Sporting Clube de Goa:- Bruzon has to work with the available squad and will rely on Dawson and Sugishita for goals. Any drastic changes are unlikely for the ‘Flaming Oranje’ side.

  DID YOU KNOW?
  • The last five encounters between these two sides in the I-League has seen Prayag and Sporting win once each and share the spoils on three occasions.

  • Oscar Bruzon was appointed as the coach of Sporting after Ekendra Singh was dismissed following their poor run of form under him.
  • Prayag United SC are the team with the highest goals (30) scored in the league. However they have only managed one clean sheet so far which came in the game against East Bengal.
