  PREVIEW

Prayag United take on Mumbai FC at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, hoping to bounce back to winning ways after suffering from a minor blip in recent games.

The Kolkatan outfit have been stung by the relative goal drought of ace strikers Ranti Martins and Carlos Hernandez. While the Nigerian is well clear on the I-League goal-scoring charts, since the game against United Sikkim, he has failed to strike the back of the net in 3 consecutive games, which must worry Eelco Schattorie.

Carlos Hernandez sat out the last game, the loss against Churchill Brothers, due to his indiscipline in the draw against Salgaocar, but is expected to be back in action against the Mumbai based club.

Defense has also been a problematic area for the big spenders, with the club having failed to keep a single clean-sheet all season, a worrying statistic for a club hoping to fight for the title.

Add to that Subrata Paul's woeful form this season between the sticks have further slackened their defence.

Khalid Jamil has been working miracles...

Their rivals on Sunday, Mumbai FC though are on a high at present. Having gone 4 games without a point, Khalid Jamil’s side looked like relegation fodder, but 10 points in the next 4 have seen them climb to mid-table security.

As always, work ethic is the philosophy around which the team is built. With not too many household names in their team, Khalid Jamil’s demands a 100% commitment from his wards.

While Yusif Yakubu is no longer the force of old, he is still a good focal point upfront and brings experience to a very young outfit. The Mumbai-based side have found a way to physically bully their opponents into submission in recent games, and will have noticed the weakness in central defense as an area to exploit against their Kolkatan rivals.

  TEAM NEWS

Prayag United - Chinta Chandrasekhar Rao and James Singh are set to return into the first team fold. S. Malswamtluanga is sidelined due to an injury while Deepak Mandal is still unavailable for selection, following the demise of his mother. Sukhen Dey finds himself on the treatment table too. Ishan Debnath might get the nod ahead of Subrata Paul.

Mumbai FC – Khalid Jamil complained about the lack of gaps between matches after the win against ONGC, and will be looking to chop and change a bit. Yakubu, who has looked tired in recent games, might be rested in favour of N.D Opara, while it remains to be seen if Ashutosh Mehta returns to the squad after the facial injury he picked up against ONGC.
