A win over United Sports Club can ensure that the Red and Gold finish second for the third time in four years...East Bengal need three points from their last fixture of the I-League season 2013-14 to finish as runners up as they take on United Sports Club on Monday. It must be noted that they have finished as runners-up on two occasions in the last three seasons.
“We tried our best but it was not enough. Now we want to end the season on a high and seal the runners-up berth,” East Bengal coach Armando Colaco commented after Bengaluru FC were crowned champions.
“Probably, I'll stay,” the Goan added when quizzed about his coaching stint with the Kolkata outfit.
The Red and Gold will look to end the season on a high where despite having the best squad on paper, they fell short when it mattered. Inconsistent results coupled with questions on the style they have to adapt never helped in their quest for title.
They would have to sit back and ponder as to what went wrong once again as they haven't been able to win the I-League as yet. Arnab Mondal suggested that too many personnel changes didn't aid as the first team never really settled into the groove.
On the other hand, United Sports Club will hope that they pick up three points following their fantastic performance against Churchill Brothers last weekend.
A win on home soil would boost their confidence further as the club managements hopes to seek sponsors for the next season.
