  PREVIEW
The clash between Prayag and Dempo will see the nation’s most expensive team playing against the defending I-League champions. Both the teams failed to win their last match. Prayag United were defeated 1-3 at home by Sporting Clube de Goa, whereas Mumbai FC held Dempo to a goalless draw.

This fixture will see some of India’s most famous players involved in the action. The Prayag side,  full of experienced campaigners have somehow failed to live up to the expectations. Eelco Schattorie, the new coach of Prayag, who had taken the team’s responsibility midway into the season, has also failed to reap the harvest of having so many class players in the squad. Prayag now have 17 points from their 13 matches. They had lost the last match miserably and would like to get back to the winning ways.

Life has not been easy for the Violet brigade as they have lacked depth in almost all components. In
spite of having big names like Bello Rasaq, Gouramangi Moirangthem, Subrata Paul and Deepak Mandal, they have managed only one clean sheet in the whole season. Ranti Martins has been extraordinary like every other year having scored 15 goals already.

Dempo beat Prayag United 3-1 in Goa

Carlos Hernandez, except for his disciplinary issues, has also played a pivotal role in their performance. But the main problem is they have failed to work as a team under the Dutch coach. This match will bring them an opportunity to beat a mighty opponent and boost their morale.

This will also be a special match for Ranti Martins as he would face a team where he had played seven highly successful seasons before joining Prayag last summer.

However, for a side like Dempo, the word consistency has become synonymous with the name. They have 29 points from 13 matches and are currently on the top of the table having played a game more. They had dropped points unexpectedly against Mumbai FC and will try to snatch 3 points in this match to an edge over the rest of the teams fighting for title.

It is also to be seen whether the recent Rohan Ricketts controversy has affected the focus of the rest of the Demmpo squad. Armando Colaco will certainly try to motivate the boys not to lose any more points in the
league-run as they have Pune FC, Churchill Brothers and East Bengal breathing down their necks.

  TEAM NEWS

Prayag United: Bello Rasaq will be back from his 2-match suspension that he suffered after being involved
in a post-match scuffle with East Bengal’s Uga Okpara. This will certainly strengthen the starting XI. Kayne Vincent, however can be brought into action later into the game as the Kiwi striker has recovered from his
injury. It is learnt that Schattorie might opt for Sangram Mukherjee ahead of Subrata Paul between the sticks while Carlos Hernandez returns to action.

Dempo:- With Ricketts being suspended, Johnny Menyongar and Koko Sakibo are set to start upfront. Joaquim Abranches might slot in the right wing position. Anthony Pereira, Cresson Antao, Peter Carvalho and Ryuji Sueoka are out due to injuries.

  DID YOU KNOW?
  • Prayag will look to improve on their defense as they have managed only one clean sheet in the whole league, which came agaainst East Bengal.
  • With 15 goals, Ranti Martins is already 5 goals ahead of Ryuji Sueoka and Roberto da Silva, who are second on the list.

  • In the last five encounters between these two teams, Dempo has won 3, Prayag has won 1 while in another match, honours were shared.
