United Sikkim's sojourn in the I-League has been a rather forgettable affair. Aside from the two home victories against Salgaocar FC and Air India, they have failed to win any of the 23 matches.
Inexperience in the big league has been their major undoing with some poor recruitment over the summer has come back to haunt them in the course of the season. While they may choose to point at their paltry budget for not being able to sign quality players, the fact that several other teams such as ONGC and Mumbai FC with similar financial constraints have managed to keep their teams away from the relegation zone only highlights the fallacy in their transfer policy.
Coming off a 9-0 mauling at the hands of Salgaocar FC, who aren't one of the strongest units either, United Sikkim have a final chance at redemption by winning their last three matches and to hope that other results go their way as well, in their quest for survival.
|Oscar will hope his side get back to winning ways
Sporting Clube de Goa have been one of the most in-form sides in the second half of the campaign however they have garnered a mere two points from a possible nine in their last three matches.
They must be credited for managing to hold East Bengal to a 1-1 draw at Kolkata earlier this week and could have almost snatched all three points. As far as their playing style is concerned, they are one of the few teams in India who like to keep the ball and pass along the ground.
Among the four Goan teams in the I-League, the Flaming Oranje are at the bottom in terms of points accrued in the league and they shall certainly want that statistic to change before the end of the season.
United Sikkim FC: Nathan Hall will be pleased that he has a full squad to choose from and doesn't have any injury concerns.
Sporting Clube de Goa: Oscar Bruzon will be without the services of Joyner Lourenco and Freiman Peixoto who are nursing injuries. Dawson Fernandes is back from suspension and will be available for selection.
