United Sikkim FC - Mumbai FC Preview: Can Jamil's men continue to put pressure on the top 4?

After an encouraging first half to the season Mumbai FC prepares to take on lowly United Sikkim, for whom a victory would be a big step forward in their battle to avoid the drop.

Round 15 of the I-League takes us to Gangtok as Mumbai FC pay a visit to United Sikkim FC in what should be an enthralling fixture.

Mumbai FC come into this game much fancied to pick up maximum points and will be encouraged by their recent performances against stronger outfits like Prayag United, East Bengal and I-League champions Dempo SC.

Mumbai FC’s biggest threat will be their experienced forward line in the form of Yusuf Yakubu and Gabriel Fernandes as they could easily toy around a shaky, demoralised United Sikkim defence. Khalid Jamil will ensure his wards do not take their North Eastern opponents lightly as the Mumbai based team will look to continue its uphill surge and maintain pressure on the top 4.

On the flipside Nathan Hall will try to lift his team after they fought hard against an impressive Pune side, only to lose 2-1 as they conceded in stoppage time. The North Eastern side will again look at the likes of Nima Tamang and Nadong Bhutia for inspiration.

Keeper Yoon Tae has been a revelation ever since his inclusion in the first team and will have to be on his toes yet again, to keep a well organised outfit like Mumbai FC at bay. The rub of the green has not gone United Sikkim’s way and  a change of luck will be welcomed with open arms.

Mumbai FC will be keen to cause damage early and dent the hosts’ confidence. It will be interesting to see if United Sikkim come out stronger after a good performance against Pune FC or if they come out demoralised, as this will play a crucial role in deciding the tie.

United Sikkim FC:
Nathan Hall can restore his last game's first 11 as there were no casualties reported.

Mumbai FC:
The Mumbaikars had a week off as their match against Mohun Bagan was cancelled and Khalid Jamil should have a full squad to choose from.

  • Mumbai FC is one of the 5 teams to score more than 20 goals this season
  • The last encounter between the two sides ended in a narrow 1-0 win for Mumbai FC
  • United Sikkim has drawn 6 of their last 8 games.
